Striped print. One stripe, two stripes - how to choose the right clothes with stripes

Our photo selection includes trendy dresses stripes, which are perfect for overweight women. It's time to dispel the myth that stripes are the wrong print for plus size parameters!

What the strip is silent about

This print is a real treasure for girls who want to visually correct their figure.

There are several rules that will tell you how to correctly use these secret properties in your images. And this is not quite a familiar mantra “horizontal print makes you fat, and vertical print slims”. It turns out that something else is important.

  • If the strip is large, then in any case it will visually fill up. Moreover, its direction and location does not matter.
  • A small and frequent strip has a strictly opposite property and its effect on the full figure can be described as positive. The picture below, which compares 2 prints, will help you visually evaluate this effect.

  • Not the last role is played by the color of the outfit. A dark stripe on a light fabric loses its slimming properties to light lines on a dark background.
  • Remarkably slimming contrast line located in the center of the dress. She visually collects the figure and noticeably transforms it. But the contrasting stripes on the sides have the opposite property and visually expand the silhouette.

  • Many fashionistas are familiar with the concept of "smart dress". This model assumes the presence of wide contrasting inserts on the sides, which form the desired shape of the figure. Also, with full parameters, diagonal lines intersecting at the waist work perfectly, which perfectly hide the protruding belly and bring the silhouette closer to the hourglass type.

  • The choice of the perfect dress, first of all, depends on the individual characteristics of the figure. So, ladies with large breasts are recommended to choose a model with stripes in the form of a rhombus. If a fashionista has broad shoulders, it makes sense to find a dress with a plain bodice and bottom with horizontal lines. And with lush hips, you should choose an outfit with a striped top and a solid bottom.
  • Alternating diagonal stripes that converge in the center in the shape of a V is another good solution for a full figure.

Stylish models

Without stripes in the 2019 season, nowhere - almost all designers agreed on this. We have selected current models summer dresses stripes, which are the best suited for obese women.

  • Among fashionable styles emit a dress with a smell. Such a cut gracefully emphasizes the waist and décolleté line - the forte of many fashionistas with plus size parameters. Wrap dresses can be with or without a belt - both options are equally relevant.

  • The shirt dress is another fashion favorite this summer that suits ladies of all sizes.

  • This novelty can be adopted by girls who like to create images with a twist. Modern fashion suggests combining a shirt dress or a model with a slit in tandem with jeans. This bow looks bold and fresh - just what you need for a summer mood.

  • Now in trend and dresses with flirty cuts. This technique creates an additional vertical in the image, which noticeably slims the figure and lengthens the legs.

  • The classic case model is ideal for girls who adhere to the business style of clothing. Pay attention to the alternation of prints in this dress - vertical lines lengthen the silhouette, and the descending diagonal stripes are responsible for the visual formation of a beautiful waist.

  • Long striped dresses are especially spectacular. These loose-fitting outfits are ideal for creating beach looks, as well as for walking around the city. A model in the Greek style, with a slit or bare shoulders, will become the basis of the image for a romantic meeting.

  • The charm of summer vacation is conveyed by linen dresses and striped sundresses. They go great with hats and straw bags and wedge or flat sandals. Now at the peak of popularity, linen outfits in muted natural shades.

Interesting! fashionable dresses from linen are perfect for obese women 40 years old, due to their environmental friendliness, safety and comfort.

  • Vertical striped outfits are slimming - that's a fact. However, the designers came up with stylish way which amplifies this effect. A row of buttons along the entire length of the dress is exactly what will benefit a girl with a full figure.

  • Summer is a great opportunity to try on the brightest and most cheerful outfits. Now the trend is not only a graphic black and white stripe, but also a fun alternation of multi-colored lines. If you've been looking for a dress that lifts your spirits, this is it!

  • The unequivocal trend of the season is outfits in blue and white stripes. Red, muted green, pink and orange colors are also relevant.

  • A favorite technique of designers is a combination of different prints in one outfit. So, a strip can easily make friends with a cage or flowers, or lines of different directions can alternate in one dress.

This combination allows you to use the corrective capabilities of prints to the maximum, and narrow the figure in the right place, and increase it in the right place.

It doesn't suit me

Striped colors are by their nature quite capricious and sometimes it can not play in favor of a fashionista. To prevent such a failure, study models that are not suitable for a full figure and know the enemy by sight.

  • Flimsy knitwear is able to emphasize all the flaws of the figure, and even a vertical strip is powerless against this property. This combination of print and fabric does not mask, but emphasizes imperfections due to the curved effect. Only women who, on the contrary, want to emphasize their luxurious forms, can afford such a reception.

  • A wide horizontal strip is hopelessly full.

  • With a short stature, a striped midi-length dress of a large size is a taboo. Models with fluffy skirt that reduce growth.
  • The corrective properties of a striped print are, of course, good, but still color strength alone is often not enough. A harmonious image will turn out not only if you want to hide the flaws, but also if you want to emphasize the merits. The perfect dress should show off your strengths, whether it's a beautiful neckline, slender legs or beautiful wrists. The right style will take care of this.

  • If you chose a striped thing as the base of a fashionable bow, make sure that the rest of the components are plain. If the print is multi-colored, it is advisable to stick to one of the shades of this pattern when choosing accessories.

  • A striped dress will easily become the centerpiece of a nautical-inspired look that is so relevant in the summer season. To support this theme, you need to stick to the characteristic palette - white, blue, cyan and red.

  • Stylists suggest that too small or, on the contrary, oversized bags are not recommended for full girls. It is always wiser to opt for medium-sized accessories.

  • Long dangling earrings are amazingly suitable for this outfit. Such accessories have a remarkable property to create another vertical line in the image and lengthen the silhouette.
  • A dress with thin lines looks great with neat, unobtrusive accessories. A larger print requires more massive decorations.
  • If it gets colder outside, you can add a leather jacket or leather jacket to the striped dress - the image will only benefit from this.

We hope we managed to convince you that striped dresses are a wonderful find for obese women both at the age of 20 and over 50. It allows you not only to look stylish, but also to correct your figure.

Striped clothing can be associated with sailors, convicts, clowns, or elegantly dressed people. Who do you want to look like when you wear stripes? Of course, we all want to avoid unwanted associations. This is not so difficult to do: you need to be able to critically evaluate yourself in the mirror and keep in mind a few simple rules use of the strip in clothing.

Yes, stripes can make you look bigger. Yes, stripes can highlight the widest part of your body. Yes, with a stripe, your figure may lose proportionality. And yes, you can still wear stripes despite all of the above. The main thing is to do it right.

Remember that stripes in clothes are very insidious. It is not enough to arm yourself with instructions from the Internet and blindly follow them. A lot depends on the width, color, contrast and arrangement of the stripes, as well as on the fabric and style. Similar striped dresses can fit the same woman in completely different ways. Striped clothes should be tried on very meticulously, especially if the figure is far from ideal.

How to wear striped clothes? 7 questions and answers

1. Are striped clothes just for the skinny?

This is an absolute fallacy. Yes, the owner of a thin physique is easier to avoid mistakes: even if an unsuccessfully selected striped suit fills her up, she still will not look like a bedside table or a barrel. But this does not mean that a plump strip is contraindicated. On the contrary, the striped pattern helps to visually adjust the proportions.

So if you want divert attention from full hips, put on a flared or A-line skirt in a horizontal strip - narrow or medium. A good option would be a combination of different stripes - from narrow to wide. For such a skirt, you should wear a dark plain top. Take a look in the mirror: you don’t look disproportionate at all! Your thighs don't seem fatter than they are! The dynamic strip masked everything.

Try on a vertical pinstripe sheath dress. Most likely, it will visually stretch you. If you have a tummy, wear this dress with a plain jacket or cardigan.

For overweight and pregnant women who want to make their tummy less noticeable, spacious diagonal stripes are suitable.

Banned for those who are not thin: tight-fitting striped items, as well as clothes with a large vertical stripe.

Always successful: jumpers, T-shirts and T-shirts in both horizontal and vertical not very large stripes.

As you can see, the strip is quite versatile. She is equally friendly towards both thin and full.

2. Do stripes add volume?

Yes, but where we ourselves want it! If, for example, you want to visually add volume to your hips, put on a tight-fitting striped skirt. The horizontal strip can be of any size, but the vertical strip must be large enough. Look in the mirror: most likely, your hips and buttocks have become more rounded in appearance. Not? Then try on another striped skirt. Any of the models will definitely sit down as needed and create additional volume.

pear women tops, jumpers and jackets with horizontal stripes are very suitable. The top visually expands slightly at the shoulders - this balances it with the lower part of the body (provided that a plain thing is worn below), making the figure seem more slender and proportionate. This is a favorite technique of the famous "pear" Jennifer Lopez.

If you have a small chest, wear striped scarves, shawls and stoles - they will visually add volume from above, but will not overload the torso.

Stylists recommend including no more than two striped items in your closet at a time. It can be two pieces of clothing or one, but complemented by striped shoes or a striped accessory. More than two details in a strip is already a serious bust, which will prevent others from taking your image seriously.

3. Horizontal or vertical stripes?

It is widely believed that Horizontal stripes make you fat, while vertical stripes make you thin. This is a deeply rooted myth, and nothing more. Actually it is the horizontal stripes that make the figure visually more proportional. They shape and emphasize the line of the bust and waist.

Large vertical stripes not only do not lose weight, but on the contrary - make the figure more overweight in appearance. Wide vertical stripes are contraindicated for those who want to look elegant and light. Such clothes will add extra volume even to a thin person, or even completely “redraw” her miniature figure into something awkwardly shapeless.

Is a striped dress slimming? Not always!

Striped clothes can deprive even a slender figure of proportionality

Vertical stripes of medium width can visually stretch the body, make it visually longer. But not the fact that it is slimmer. With such stripes, the body loses feminine proportions.

A very narrow vertical strip will help to visually remove a few kilograms. But the style is also important - clothes should not be either tight-fitting or too wide. Choose the golden mean.

The horizontal stripe, contrary to popular belief, suits everyone. To a greater extent, this applies to clothing for the upper body: jackets, jumpers, pullovers, T-shirts, T-shirts, tops, etc. Horizontal striped dresses are also very versatile, but wearing them has several nuances. So, full girls should give up tight-fitting styles and too wide stripes. But narrow rare stripes will perfectly “shape the figure”, making it more harmonious and slender.

Compare how women look in horizontal and vertical stripes. It is unlikely that anyone will argue that a vertical strip is slimming.

Diagonal stripes are also suitable for any figure.

Can a striped dress make you slim? Yes! You just need to choose the right strip!

4. Wide or narrow stripe?

A wide strip looks better in a horizontal design, especially when it comes to sweaters, cardigans, jackets. Here, wide stripes look harmonious, repeating and shaping the lines of the silhouette.

A wide vertical strip is not always successful. Few figures will be flattered by such a pattern on clothes - perhaps ideal.

A narrow strip is equally good in both horizontal and vertical positions. But from a very narrow strip it can ripple in the eyes. Choose either a not very contrasting pattern, or not too frequent repetition of stripes.

A great solution is to combine wide and narrow stripes in one piece of clothing.

5. How to wear striped clothes? What colors to combine?

Black and white stripes are worn with plain clothes of bright color. For example, with green trousers, purple shoes, etc. But not with everything at once, but with one thing. For example: black and white striped top, crimson pencil skirt, nude pumps. This solution is considered a classic and is very popular.

Black and white stripes can be worn with black, white and gray clothes, as well as with neutral beige, sand, khaki, etc.

The combination looks very summery. blue and white stripes with red. This color combination is a symbol of marine style, which, of course, is very important in the summer.

What to wear with blue stripes? With red clothes, shoes and accessories

If the stripe is colored, combine such a thing with plain clothes in the color of one of the stripes. For example, a top in red, yellow and white stripes can be worn mono with a red, white, and yellow skirt. Perhaps an orange skirt is also suitable here, combining both yellow and red at once. If you want the look to be quite restrained, combine the colored stripe with white or beige.

Denim items go well with any stripe, regardless of its location, width and color.

6. With what patterns and prints can I combine the stripe?

You can try to combine two things in a completely different strip. But to achieve a successful result is quite difficult. It is highly likely that one of the little things will be perceived as inappropriate and superfluous.

Good combination of different bands

It is preferable to choose plain clothes for striped clothes. But if you want to dilute it with a pattern, you should take another strip, polka dot or flower as a companion to the strip. The polka dot stripe is also a tricky but softer pairing with a vintage hint. This choice is not for every day, but for a party or weekend walk.

With a floral print, you need to combine the strip very carefully. One of the drawings must necessarily dominate - they are not allowed to be equally bright. If the stripe is very contrasting and rather wide, it is worth combining it with a light, non-contrasting flower. And vice versa: a large bright flower should be combined only with a thin and almost imperceptible strip.

It is not recommended to combine stripes and, stripes and, as well as stripes and complex ornaments in clothes. However, there are always wonderful exceptions to this rule.

7. Where and how to wear striped clothes?

1. For work and study. The stripe is an essential element of business style. Striped shirts and sheath dresses must be present in the wardrobe of a business lady. The stripe in such things is usually narrow and not too contrasting.

Wear striped blouses and shirts with plain trousers and skirts.

2. Casual style. The strip is actively included in everyday wardrobe: these are striped T-shirts, jumpers, skirts, tunics, knitted dresses, knitted vest dresses and even striped leggings. These clothes are perfectly combined with denim and leather things.

The indisputable advantage of striped things is their versatility. Not every color can be worn daily and at the same time, so that it does not annoy you at all. And you can have a stripe.

Any element of the wardrobe can be striped: from underwear to winter coat. It perfectly dilutes the monotony in the wardrobe and acts as an unobtrusive decoration. Agree, a gray jumper looks a little banal, but if it is diluted with a thin, white stripe, then a completely different picture appears.

Striped clothing may vary. Dresses, sweaters, striped trousers can be found on every third woman. Most people are mistaken, considering such a print to be dangerous, however, it has not left the fashion catwalks for more than a dozen years. Let's find out why stripes can be worn by everyone.

In the head of 90% of women, there is a stereotype that the strip cannot be worn, as it increases the volume and makes them much fuller. As a result, they use only striped accessories, thus depriving themselves of the opportunity to diversify their wardrobe with beautiful clothes.

In fact, striped clothes have been fashionable for a long time, and not only slim girls can wear them, but also plump women. Just in each individual case, you need to choose a special strip.

How to choose right?

Girls with a slender body, as usual, are much more fortunate than everyone else. They can wear things from any strip without any fear: wide, narrow, colored. Here you can safely experiment not only with the width of the strip, but also with its texture and color.

In order to emphasize the waist or highlight it, we recommend wearing sweaters with oblique stripes that will connect in the place where you like.

For girls with narrow shoulders and large hips, striped sweaters or sweaters with striped decorative inserts around the shoulders are ideal. This is necessary in order for the figure to become proportional.

If your situation with the figure is the opposite, then striped trousers and skirts will come to your aid. It is not necessary to choose contrasting models, like what the character from the movie "Asterix and Obelix" wore. You can choose a classic stripe and thereby achieve the desired effect.

For those girls who cannot boast of having large breasts, dresses and sweaters with wide stripes in this area are ideal. One strip is enough, only it should be lighter than the main clothing, and even better than white.

If you are short, then the vertical stripe is for you. She will be able to stretch you and emphasize the contours of the figure. But the horizontal strip, on the contrary, will make you look like a small mushroom, as it will break your body into pieces.

Tall girls are often ashamed of their height. But it's not as scary as it seems. You can wear the same things as everyone else and still look like a gentle and little princess. For you, things with a strip are suitable, while you can wear a flared skirt to the bottom. This trick will visually reduce you.

Girls who are not afraid to try to wear interesting and unusual things should definitely try on things in which the stripes are randomly directed. Such a coloring attracts the views of others and makes the figure balanced.

For fat girls and women

A wide horizontal stripe will not make you fat if you choose and use non-contrasting colors. For example, instead of the usual black and white stripes, buy a dress with dark purple and lilac.

For you, things in which the strip is used in some part of them will be ideal. For example, above the waist. Or present on the sleeves and collar.

Also, a small vertical strip will help you hide the unevenness of the figure. The main thing is to pay attention to the density of the fabric. The tougher it is, the better.

What to wear?

It can be used both as an independent element and additional. It goes well with plain fabrics. For example, a striped sweater and black trousers are timeless classics. Also, a striped dress can be complemented with a plain jacket. Not necessarily the same color as the stripes. The main thing is that he should be restrained and not have a large number decorative elements.

There is a huge amount of striped things. Consider the most popular ones.

The dress

In 2013, striped dresses will be at their peak. They will be worn by stars, models and ordinary women. Especially striped dresses are appropriate in summer, when everyone wants to bring brightness into their lives. They can be either ultra mini length or floor length. The main thing is the relevance of this color scheme.

Knitted sweaters

Knitwear is a popular material for striped items. In 2013, and not only in it, literally every girl should have a striped sweater. It perfectly combines beauty and warmth. A striped sweater is a great option for autumn outdoor recreation, in the country or in the family circle.

For what season in a row, according to experts, the strip does not go out of fashion and it is obvious that this trend will be extremely relevant this year as well. Blouses, tops, pullovers, trousers, bags, suits, dresses and even swimwear - everything this year will be subject to the "striped" fashion. Stripes on clothes can have very different widths, colors and directions, but it is important to remember that different stripes can become both allies and enemies for a figure. The strip is ideal for both everyday looks and outfits for working days, as well as for romantic dates and parties. It is democratic and elegant, simple and insidious. Meanwhile, the fate of the strip is very tortuous. In the Middle Ages, striped clothing was perceived as something illegal, diabolical. The history, literature and iconography of medieval Europe testify to the many negative characters who traditionally wore striped clothes. Jews and heretics, jesters and jugglers, executioners, prostitutes and lepers, as well as the traitor warrior from the novel about the Knights of the Round Table, the madman from the Book of Psalms and Judas Iscariot himself - they were all outcasts and outcasts, they all violated or distorted the existing order of things , and all of them in one way or another are connected with the devil. There is nothing mystical or accidental here - on the contrary, many sources openly characterize striped clothes as something base, outrageous. Such a case is known. Back in 1930, in the north of France in the city of Rouen, a shoemaker was sentenced to death. The reason was strange for a modern person - the poor shoemaker dressed in a striped apron. At that time, the Church declared striped clothing to be a diabolical design and was banned. The clothes of prisoners and convicts were ... also striped. Sources are silent about monochrome clothing, since it is something ordinary and everyday, the “norm”. Striped clothing, on the contrary, is widely represented in documents - because it causes rumors and confusion. But the times of general delusions have passed, and today the strip beats all records of popularity. Coco Chanel was the first to bring stripes into fashion. She herself liked to flaunt in striped sweaters. Fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier shocked the audience with a vest, which he turned into a comfortable uniform and made it a trademark. The peak of popularity of the strip reaches in the spring and summer, when the holiday season comes, and all thoughts are only about the sea, the sun and good mood. After all, the strip is primarily associated with the marine theme.
Herve Leger dress
There are several enduring myths associated with this seemingly popular print. Myth 1. Probably everyone has heard the common opinion: vertical stripes slim the figure. No, this is not always the case. So what do you think? What is full? What is slimming? In fact, vertical stripes only visually stretch the figure, "add" growth. To make all or part of the figure slimmer or fuller, it is much more important to consider the color and width of the stripes. Below in the photo you can see which strip is slimming and which is not...
Large frequent contrasting stripes in photo 1 (from left to right) not only stretch the figure, but also significantly expand it, as a result, the figure looks very large. To avoid this undesirable effect, clothing with non-contrasting stripes will help. At the same time, there should be few large stripes, as in photo 2, where wide stripes are successfully diluted with narrow ones. Small, non-contrasting stripes look noble in photo 3 - they only slightly stretch the upper part of the figure without adding volume. White trousers continue the stripes on the blouse and end with white sandals, a white wide-brimmed hat completes the look. The result is one white vertical stripe and the figure as a whole looks slim. The combination of vertical and diagonal stripes in photo 4 is very successful - the waist looks narrower, and the hips are more voluminous. Just what the doctor ordered.) Myth 2. Horizontal stripes complete the figure. In fact, they do not make them fat, but they form them. It is with the help of horizontal stripes that you can visually enlarge the chest or make the waist thinner. After all, all female charms are located just horizontally. To model the figure, you can try on clothes with non-contrasting large stripes.
In photo 1, the darkest stripe is at the waist - the waist looks thinner. If you use only one wide dark stripe at the waist in the dress, the effect will be stronger. To create an x-silhouette, dress 2 is suitable: a dark stripe in the center, light ones on top and bottom. We visually enlarge the hips with the help of light stripes as in photo 3. We reduce the hips: we put on plain trousers or a skirt with a striped top of the same color as in photo 4. The length of the sleeve on the chest line is an additional “stripe” that distracts from the hips and the top looks more voluminous . Myth 3. stripes only go to the young. But no! Stripes suit everyone, but with age they should become more subdued, and even that is not necessary ... it all depends on the style and temperament of the woman. Marc by Marc Jacobs dress on Michelle Obama If you choose red, pink or yellow stripes, be careful, you can dress completely tasteless. If you are going to wear a red and white striped T-shirt, then the bottom must be white, red or denim.
The strip is lines, geometric patterns. And all the patterns are successfully combined with their own kind - geometric. It is believed that combining stripes with polka dots or other geometry means to be known as the owner of unquestioned taste and style, although, as it seems to me, it can be a very controversial option. But with a floral print, you need to be especially careful. Successful images using floral print and stripes are very rare. from the Spring 2013 collection by Marc Jacobs It is very important to choose the color of the strips, taking into account your color type (skin tone, eyes, hair). There is a real possibility of getting lost).

The famous Prada dress on the young actress Hailee Steinfeld With the help of stripes, you can divert attention from a not too slender part of the body - draw it with an accent of stripes to a more slender one).
Here are the most stylish and successful images with the use of strips according to stylists. 1. Pair a striped top or shirt with a plain suit, jeans, or sweater.
2. Pair a pencil skirt with a loose top/striped blouse 3. Create a nautical-inspired look, such as with a light blue or blue skirt.
4. Choose clothes with bright stripes and add things to match one of the colors of the stripes. 5. Combine stripes with polka dots or geometric patterns. 6. Wear a shirt/sweatshirt/top with bright stripes, skinny jeans or vintage flared jeans with a high waist. 7. A very common example of street style, a popular combination is a red bottom and a striped top. A striped thing with a red skirt makes the look a little frivolous, daring and invariably relevant. So, let's summarize... 1. Narrow and frequent stripes visually reduce the volume of the figure, wide ones, on the contrary, add sentimentality. Hue matters. Only the classics are win-win - black and white "France" and sea stripes. 2. Any stripe is already a strong accent, so you need to place it carefully. Balance the proportions of the figure. Do you think you have an oversized bust? Wear a plain dark blouse/top and a striped bottom - a skirt or trousers. Are you worried about the fullness of the hips? Do the opposite: let the upper part of the ensemble be striped, and the lower part monophonic. Bright stripes will adorn young girls, and older women will look more successful in muted ones.
3. If you "play" with uneven stripes correctly, you can achieve volume or lack thereof in the right places of the silhouette (chest, waist, hips).
4. Be careful with a strip of bright colors. Here you need a monochromatic component of the outfit, according to the color of one of the stripes. The exception is the ageless "jeans".
Zoe Saldana was irresistible in red and white stripes - the wide stripes on the perfectly tailored Armani Prive toga matched perfectly with the color of the carpet 5. Nuances, of course, exist, but in general, a diagonal strip suits everyone!

6. Do not wear too tight clothes with stripes, in this case, the striped print will definitely add volume. 7. Color plays a very important role. Dark stripes mask errors, bright stripes make them more noticeable. 8. The strip in the image should be one - either in accessories or in the clothes themselves. It is striped accessories that can perfectly emphasize a solid dark/bright/pastel look.

9. For everyday wear, wide stripes are most suitable. Thin stripes emphasize elegance and style and are more suitable for occasions that require a strict dress. In the case of evening looks in wide stripes with a twist, such as metallic sheen or sequins, the outfit can turn out to be spectacular. Oscar de la Renta dress 10. You should not "build" an image in stripes from head to toe. Absolutely striped dress does not look good on everyone. And the outfit can get boring.

Updated on 17/01/13 14:29: From history... The first vests appeared during the sailing fleet. Introduced into the Russian Navy by Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich Romanov in 1874. A distinctive feature of the vest is alternating horizontal white and blue stripes. Initially, such a color scheme made it possible to see the actions of the sailors when they were working with sails on the yards, and then it became just a tradition. Initially, vests with dark blue stripes were supplied to the personnel of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Russia and the USSR. The wearing of vests by revolutionary sailors in the Civil War and marines in the Great Patriotic War made the vest very popular as a romantic symbol of the sea, naval service, courage and prowess.

Not a single vacation wardrobe is complete without a sea stripe. But even outside the resorts, locking this expressive print with a padlock is criminal. We figure out how to wear it in the city so that it is stylish and appropriate.

One striped thing

The first thing to remember when creating an urban image is moderation. After looking at street style collections, you may already be wondering how great it would be to wear a striped shirt, skirt to the office, and in online catalogs you cling to striped bags and shoes with your eyes. Yes, the monolook is in trend, but when it comes to a noticeable pattern, you should not be zealous. Firstly, in such an overloaded image, there is nothing for the eye to catch on: there are many details, but there is no main one. Secondly, being like a sailor in a vest riding a zebra is a sign of disrespect for others. Their main reaction will be a nervous tic and a desire to escape.

"Wearable" looks involve only one striped piece of clothing. In accessories, the strip can be repeated, but again, only once. And it is desirable that it be smaller or larger than on clothes - so the set will be more expressive.

thin strip

The easiest and safest option is a thin strip about 5 mm wide or less. Things with such a pattern are restrained, and if the lines of the pattern are not bright, from the outside they look like a background. A thin stripe easily fits into the business wardrobe of any season. Combine it like any basic thing. You should be careful only with black and white options: in a small format, this print looks a little nervous.

Tandem with colored things

Colored things will become excellent companions for the strip. But before choosing them, you need to understand which palette prevails in a shirt, t-shirt or whatever you have striped. It does not always coincide with the shade of the strips themselves. For example, when alternating dark blue and white lines from a distance of a couple of meters, the general background of a thing may appear gray.

So, we move away from our striped trophy a few steps, relax our eyesight a little and see what tone it turns out. The wider the stripes - the more pure in color it will be, the thinner - the more likely it will be gray, blue, pink, beige or whatever. If the shade is seen “without impurities”, then choose the same things in a pair with it. Their color can be rich or dark - for example, red, yellow, black, neon green and ultramarine are great. If the tone is not bright, then he needs a color partner in a more modest palette.

Stripe and prints

If you want to give your look a summery vibe (but not so much that it looks like you're about to jump out of a negotiation and into a regatta), try pairing the stripe with other seasonal prints, like floral prints. Sets in which flowers bloom on skirts, and straight lines are drawn on tops, blouses and jackets look more strict. If you place the floral pattern closer to the face, then the image will become informal - it's so arranged that the portrait zone sets the mood as a whole.

Tilt angle

The stripe is not only a valuable print, but also two or three kilograms of weight. But up or down - it depends on how to arrange this picture. Remember the simple rules: if there are a lot of lines (more than five) and they are vertical, then the volumes visually expand, and if they are horizontal, vice versa. If from a distance of several steps the strip looks fuzzy (like a background), then it does not significantly change the proportions.

Up
