On the initiative of the Voskresensk Charitable Society, on January 1, 1911, a library was opened in the city of Voskresensk. In 1912, it was officially named after A.P. Chekhov. 120 rubles were allocated for her maintenance. The catalog of that time included 3070 book titles
In the pre-war years, the library had well-equipped premises. Book fund - 30 thousand copies.
In November 1941, during 11 days of occupation, the library was completely destroyed by the bombing of the German invaders. But by 1945 the library had been completely restored.
1976 is a turning point in the history of librarianship; centralization began - 38 libraries merged into a large library institution - the Central Library District of the region.
But that was yesterday, what about today? Today!
Today the library is a methodological center for 32 libraries district. The book fund is almost 94 thousand storage units.
Since 2004, the legal information system “Consultant Plus” has been operating in the library’s reading room.
In 2005, over 5.5 thousand people signed up for the library. More than 39 thousand people visited the library during the year. Over 100 people use the library every day.
The library is open to everyone, welcomes its loyal and regular readers and is ready to welcome new readers.
The A.P. Chekhov Library maintains close ties with literary figures: writers, poets, journalists.

Let's remember how it all began...
In the fall of 1957, the first library was opened in Luchki. On Svoboda Street, in the building of the Housing and Communal Administration, books for adults were placed in one of the rooms, and a small room was allocated for children on Tchaikovsky Street, in the House of Pioneers.
Rejoicing at the appearance of the library, readers nevertheless expressed their dissatisfaction and asked the city leadership to allocate more spacious premises for the library.
There is documentary evidence of this - notes from the newspaper Znamya Truda of those years. One of them says that many young readers have to stand in line to exchange books
in another, entitled “Crowded and Offended,” a worker correspondent draws the attention of the city administration to the fact that literary treasures cannot be made available to the general public as long as the area of the library reading room is 8 square meters.
Having listened to the townspeople, in April 1962 the library was given the ground floor of a new residential building on the street. Zhukovsky. And for 50 years now, more and more generations of readers have been flocking here.
The library carefully preserves materials related to its history. Today, exhibitions present unique evidence of past years. From them it is clear what a rich and unique experience of work has been accumulated here, how much has been done for the benefit of the city and readers.
