For beginners, it is better not to rush into creating your own pattern and it is better to use an embroidery kit, the contents of which can be checked in the store, so as not to stumble upon unclear patterns and low-quality materials.

Canvas with a printed pattern will also be a difficult test for beginning needlewomen, since you will have to select colors and threads yourself. A correctly selected scheme, taking into account your desires and capabilities, will make the process of working on the painting as easy and quick as possible.

Before starting work, for convenience, the outline can be drawn out in 10x10 squares. The needle can be anything, the main thing is that it does not deform the canvas. The hoop is used to tension and secure the canvas.

The main work is done with a classic full counted cross, but, for example, to embroider large elements, you can use closed stitches; for rich dark areas, a double cross is suitable, and for highlights - half crosses. How to embroider poppies with a cross: interesting ideas

Cross stitch of poppies is a bright work in itself, but scarlet poppies will look even more impressive against a black background. To achieve this result, choose a black canvas. Beginners should not do this, as it is not easy to work with.

An interesting pattern with poppies can be found on the Internet or in a store

If you still have to deal with dark-colored canvas, you can use the following tips:

  • Before starting work, draw out a 10x10 material with a white pencil;
  • Identify the main details;
  • Place a lamp or a white backing under the hoop;
  • Use a magnifying glass in your work.

Skilled needlewomen can use denser woolen threads to enhance the effect, or give preference to silk ones, adding shine to the work.

We embroider on black canvas only after washing the material, in order to protect ourselves from disappointment if the canvas sheds after finishing the work.

Recently, modular paintings - images consisting of several parts - have become very popular in interiors. In needlework they also become an interesting option. The difficulty of embroidering polyptychs is maintaining the joints if the work is done on separate sections.

Cross stitch examples: poppies (photo)

This work took me a year and nine months, so now that it is completed and framed, I cannot be brief! There will be many, many photos!
So, "Scarlet Poppies" from the collection RIOLIS Premium(art. 100/037).
Cross in 2 and 3 threads, half-cross (in an unusual direction for me, which really slowed down the work), backing, metallized thread. The base is a long-forgotten 14-count aida, which I was afraid to replace with a uniform one, so as not to miss the color - this pearl gray seemed too suitable!

The size of the embroidery is 70x30 cm, so there is no mat, just a simple wooden baguette. And of course, without glass, so as not to “steal” the beauty of the beads.

I couldn’t come up with anything with the composition - this picture is so self-sufficient (or I’m a mediocre decorator, which is more likely).

There are a lot of interesting elements in the design. For example, a half-cross and a silver metallic back. For a very long time I tried to convey its shine, especially on the scarlet petals. I'm not sure what happened, but here it is:

For the first (and last!) time I did cross stitch with three threads. It’s amazing: the half-cross with 6 folds from Dimensions has never bothered me or caused me any difficulties, but here – even cry! Someone advised embroidering with two threads, but I can say for sure: it’s better to follow the pattern! Otherwise the brightness will be lost. Flowers definitely pop here! The gray stems are embroidered with a cross in two threads, and the shadows in the background are embroidered with a half-cross in one thread.

To sum it up, I’ll say: I’m happy with the result! The poppies will be a gift for my aunt’s anniversary last summer (in fact, they were embroidered according to her order).
Well, a little about non-embroidery :) I’ve already talked a little about the fact that poppies literally haunted me all the time I was working on the design. The trend has continued.
In November 2014, my husband and I went to London for a few days, where it was just days of remembrance - 100 years since the beginning of the First World War. The whole city was... covered in poppies! On the lapels of jackets, on the hoods of cars and even on dog harnesses :) Here, for example, is a monument to the heroes of World War II:

And here is the Queen of Great Britain's motorcade:

Well, the queen herself :)

But what struck me most was the scarlet sea around the Tower! Poppies (upon detailed study turned out to be ceramic) filled the fortress moat and climbed up the walls - it was a spectacular and beautiful sight! It was simply impossible to take your eyes off, and it was also impossible to stop taking photographs. I sincerely share with you!
