Why read the hymnal? Reading the psalter on various occasions

Lord of strength! Blessed is the man who trusts in You!

Psalm 83, verse 13

Foreword

Let the psalm be unceasingly in your mouth.

Venerable Ephraim the Syrian

The Psalter is a sacred book containing a collection of sacred songs of the Old Testament Church. The content of the Psalter is diverse - it contains the teaching of faith, and the teaching of morality, and prophecies about Christ and the Church of the New Testament, and stories about the miracles of the Old Testament, and images of the power of God, full of sacred delight, appearing in the creation of the world, in providing for it, and especially in providence for those who know and honor God. David himself, the creator of the psalms, notes that "the psalms of Israel are magnificent," and explains the reasons for this magnificence: The Spirit of the Lord has spoken in me, and his word is on my tongue(2 Kings 23:2). This inner lofty dignity of the psalms was the reason why, from the beginning of Christianity, the Psalter came into use among the faithful. The holy fathers, and especially the hermits, spent almost all their time singing psalms, without interrupting it even during their bodily activities. Thus, the Psalter came into widespread use in the Christian Church and, while remaining a book inspired by God, became at the same time a liturgical book.

For home or private use, the Psalter is published divided into kathismas, with touching troparia and prayers after each kathisma. The reading of the Psalter is considered by the Fathers of the Church to be an extremely soul-beneficial and charitable occupation.

The king and prophet David pronounces prophecies, exhortations and legal provisions in the psalms and offers either moral or dogmatic teaching, sometimes mourns the disasters of the Jews, and sometimes prophetically sings of the salvation of the Gentiles, in many places predicts the suffering and resurrection of the Lord Christ. There are several interpretations of the psalms of the Psalms by the holy fathers of the Church, as well as advice and instructions from the holy fathers regarding the reading of the psalms of the Psalms. This book introduces readers to some of them.

About reading the Psalter for every need
Compiled according to the writings of St. Athanasius the Great

Everyone, reciting psalms, let him be trustworthy that God will soon hear those who ask with a psalm word.

For if anyone endures temptations and persecutions, singing psalms, he will appear virtuous and will be patronized by the Lord, who patronized the one who spoke the psalm, or he will put the devil to flight and repel his demons.

If anyone has sinned, reading the psalms, he will come to his senses and stop sinning.

And if someone has not sinned, he will see himself rejoicing that he competes with those who precede, and singing psalms, he prevails in the struggle, and he will never waver in the truth, but will convict those who deceive and intend to lead astray ...

I heard from wise men that in ancient times, among the Israelites, only by reading the Scriptures they drove out demons and exposed the intrigues they perpetrated to people.

Psalms read if you want to correct a person from shortcomings
According to the instructions of the holy righteous John of Kronstadt

If you want to correct someone from shortcomings, then cast sorrow on the Lord ( psalm 54: "Inspire, O God, my prayer"; psalm 23: "The land of the Lord, and the fulfillment of it") and pray to Him, testing our hearts and wombs ( psalm 7: "Lord my God, I put my trust in you"; psalm 10: “I trust in the Lord”) from the bottom of my heart, so that He Himself enlightens the mind and heart of man; if He sees that your prayer breathes love and comes from the whole heart, then he will certainly fulfill the desire of your heart, and you will soon say, seeing a change in the one for whom you pray: “This is a betrayal of the right hand of the Most High” (psalm 76: “With my voice cry to the Lord"; psalm 11: "Save me, Lord").

Hieromonk Christodoulos. "O Heron Paisios"

On the Daily Reading of the Six Psalms

Six Psalmie (Eksapsalmy)

Six Psalms - These are six psalms that are read at the beginning of Matins. The Six Psalms begins with a doxology: Gloria, and prayer: Lord, open my mouth. In the midst of the Six Psalms and at the end of it, the Holy Trinity is glorified three times hallelujah.

The psalms that make up the sixth psalm are so touching, their content is so close to us (they depict, on the one hand, the greatness of God and the abundance of His good deeds to man, on the other, the insignificance and sinfulness of man) that the Holy Church pays special attention to our for this reading. The statute says that during this reading “not to have anyone in the power to create whispers, below spit or snort (spit); but rather listen to what is said from the psalmist, the hands of the possessions are bent to the Persians, the heads are bowed, and the eyes of the possessions are down (lowered to the ground), the eyes of the heart are sighted to the east, praying for our sins, remembering death, and future torment, and eternal life. To arouse more attention in the worshipers, when reading the six-salmia, the charter commands to extinguish the candles and remain by the light of the lamps.

Psalm 3

This psalm, the first of the so-called Six Psalms, which is part of Matins, has the purpose of giving thanks to God for saving life on the past night with a prayer for sending down prosperity on the coming day, with which this psalm is in agreement. (I lie down, sleep, get up ... Arise, Lord! Save me…)

Psalm 37

This psalm occupies the second place in the Six Psalms. With the words of this psalm, every believer repents before God for his sinfulness with the confession of complete submission in devotion to His will (v. 16). The person here expresses a desire in the coming day to make amends for the bad deeds he has done (v. 19).

Psalm 62

Psalm 62 occupies the third place in the Six Psalms, composing a prayer to God when the day comes, that it (prayer) be pleasing to God (v. 6 ) and that the Lord accept the one who prays under the “shadow of His wings” (v. 8 ) for the next day.

Psalm 87

This is the fourth psalm in the Six Psalms. The darkness of the night resembles hell, sleep is death. The purpose of this psalm in morning worship: before the day comes, the Church reminds a person of the need for efforts on his part in order to avoid rejection from God, which is possible only with the help of God and prayer to Him (v. 5, 14), so as not to be subjected to eternal night, eternal death.

Psalm 102

The fifth psalm in the Six Psalms shows the image of the merciful attitude of God towards man and is distinguished by unusual touching.

Psalm 142

This psalm is the last in the sixth psalm. Having strengthened a person in the hope of receiving salvation (ps. 102), the Church, on behalf of the believers, prays to God to show him the path of activity (v. 8 ), teach him to do His will and honor him land of truth(art. 10 ).

She is the source of strength and vital energy. God's power strengthens people who give meaning to their lives.

Text in Russian psalm 39

I firmly trusted in the Lord, and He bowed down to me and heard my cry; he drew me out of the terrible ditch, out of the muddy swamp, and set my feet on a stone and established my steps; and put into my mouth a new song, praise to our God. Many will see and fear and trust in the Lord. Blessed is the man who puts his hope in the Lord and does not turn to the proud and to those who turn to falsehood. You have done a lot, O Lord, my God: about your miracles and your thoughts about us - who will be like you! I wish I could preach and speak, but they outnumber them. Sacrifices and offerings You did not desire; You opened my ears; You did not require burnt offerings and sin offerings. Then I said: here I go; in a book scroll it is written about me: I desire to do Thy will, my God, and Thy law is in my heart. I proclaimed in the great congregation; I did not rebuke my mouth: You, Lord, know. I did not hide Your truth in my heart, I proclaimed Your faithfulness and Your salvation, I did not hide Your mercy and Your truth before the great assembly. Do not withhold, O Lord, Thy bounties from me; Thy mercy and Thy truth guard me unceasingly, for incalculable troubles have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me, so that I cannot see: they are more than the hairs on my head; my heart has left me. Delight, Lord, to deliver me; God! hasten to help me. May all who seek the destruction of my soul be ashamed and put to shame! May those who wish me harm be turned back and ridiculed! Let those who say to me, “Well done! Good!" May all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You, and let those who love Your salvation say without ceasing: “Great is the Lord!” I am poor and needy, but the Lord cares for me. You are my help and my deliverer, my God! don't slow down.

Russian Orthodox text Psalm 46

Clap your hands, all nations, shout to God with a voice of joy; for the Lord Most High is terrible, the great King over all the earth; he brought nations and nations under our feet to us; chose for us our heritage, the beauty of Jacob, whom he loved. God ascended with shouts, the Lord with the sound of the trumpet. Sing to our God, sing; sing to our King, sing, for God is the King of all the earth; sing wisely. God reigned over the nations, God sat on his holy throne; the princes of the nations gathered to the people of the God of Abraham, for the shields of the earth are God's; He is exalted above them.

Christian text psalm 47

Great is the Lord and all-praised in the city of our God, on His holy mountain. Beautiful high place, the joy of the whole earth, Mount Zion; on the north side is the city of the great King. God is known in his dwellings as an intercessor: for, behold, the kings came together and passed all by; they saw and were astonished, they were confused and fled; fear seized them there and torment, like that of women in childbirth; with the east wind You crushed the ships of Tharsh. As we heard, so we saw in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish him forever. We meditated, O God, on Your goodness in the midst. As your name, O God, so is your praise to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness. May Mount Zion rejoice, and may the daughters of Judah rejoice for the sake of Thy judgments, O Lord. Go around Zion and go around it, count its towers; turn your heart to its strongholds, consider its houses, to tell the coming generation, for this God is our God forever and ever: He will be our leader until death.

Blessed Pelagia of Ryazan gave parting words to her descendants to go to confession and communion more often, read the psalter and prayers. She said which psalms should be read before the coming of the Antichrist. And about the three miracles before the coming of the Antichrist. Prophecies about three resurrections.

First miracle

In Jerusalem - the resurrection from the dead of the holy patriarch Enoch and the holy prophet Elijah on the third day after their crucifixion by the Antichrist!

Second miracle

In the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra, after the advent and reign of the Antichrist, St. Sergius of Radonezh will resurrect. He will rise from the shrine, reach the Assumption Cathedral in front of everyone, and then ascend to heaven! And there will be a sea of tears! Then there will be nothing to do in the monastery, there will be no grace!

Third miracle

Happens in Sarov. The Lord will resurrect Father Seraphim of Sarov, who will be alive for a long time. Whoever wants to see him alive! And how many miracles will be then! - said Blessed Pelagia of Ryazan.

Blessed Pelagia of Ryazan said that the relics of the Reverend Father Seraphim are in Moscow with a pious old woman. The Angel of the Lord, when necessary, tells her to turn to the first hierarch and say that she has the relics of Father Seraphim. These Holy relics will be carried on their shoulders through Kashira along the Volgograd road through Mikhailov to Tambov, and from there to Sarov. In Sarov, Father Seraphim will rise from the dead!

At the time when the relics of Father Seraphim will be carried, there will be a lot of people, and many sick people will be healed! His resurrection in Sarov will be announced on radio and television, and the people will be countless! At this time, many foreigners, priests, and just curious people will come to Sarov from all over the world. Everyone will be convinced of the resurrection of St. Seraphim. Yes, truly, this is the elder who consecrated himself to God on this earth, in this area! This is going to be a worldwide miracle!

From Sarov, Father Seraphim will go to the Diveevo monastery on foot. He will be accompanied by the last Sovereign with the royal priesthood and a lot of people ... On the way to Diveevo, the Monk Seraphim will work many miracles, and in Diveevo too! He will expose the clergy of betrayal and treason, he will preach repentance to the whole world, - said the saint of God Pelagia of Ryazan, - Seraphim of Sarov will explain the whole story, tell everything and will denounce the shepherds as babies, show them how to be baptized, and much more. .. Even the Jews will believe in Father Seraphim, and through this - in the Lord Jesus Christ!

If you went to magicians, psychics, etc. ... read Psalm 26 40 times a day / 40 days in a row. Further, at least three times a day.

Psalm 15 - in order to always see the Lord

Psalm 19 - to prepare for the coming of the Antichrist

Psalm 20 - to reason with the evil person

Psalm 21 - to receive forgiveness of grave sins (18 - 20 ordeals)

18 ordeal of Sodomic sins Incest, masturbation, likening cattle, unnatural sins

19 ordeal of heresies Unrighteous wisdom about faith, apostasy from the Orthodox confession

20 ordeal of mercilessness and hardness of heart Denial of alms, hardness of heart towards the needy

26 psalm - to stand both in spiritual warfare and in war; from sorcery and under any temptations. (Whoever reads it three times a day, the Lord will guide him through the water as through dry land!!!)

Psalm 29 - for fear of suffering for the Lord

Psalm 33 - to avoid thirst in food and drink

Psalm 39 - to fulfill the will of God and be ready for self-sacrifice

Psalm 43 - so that the grace of God abides in the house

Psalm 69 - to adequately repel the attacks of enemies

Psalm 78 - to deliver Christians from torment and death

Psalm 83 - to inherit the kingdom of heaven

Psalm 90 - to have from the Savior the power to overcome evil

Psalm 139 - in order to have prayer and work (or pension)

Psalm 141 - to be ready for persecution
