Traffic circle 3 lanes. Reminder: How to pass a roundabout in a new way? The most common mistakes motorists make

Following the Rules of the Road for any driver is a vital necessity. Each person driving a vehicle must know and be able to put into practice the algorithm for performing maneuvers on the roadway, without interfering with other cars, trucks, buses, etc. For example, if an intersection involves a roundabout, the rules for driving such a section are clearly regulated by traffic rules . The task of the driver is to correctly select the lane and direction, as well as correctly exit from this zone. This is necessary in order to minimize the risk of an emergency and, consequently, an accident. Since November 2017, new rules for passing roundabouts have been in force. They are detailed below.

Roundabout: definition

This term refers to a section of the road, in appearance resembling an island. According to the traffic rules, roundabouts in this area must be organized counterclockwise. However, this condition is relevant only for roads with right-hand traffic of vehicles. If the movement is carried out on the left, it is necessary to go in the opposite direction. This feature is important to consider in each region.

According to the rules of the road, the roundabout must be carried out as long as the vehicle is in the area of the intersection. At the same time, drivers do not need to turn on the turn signals while overcoming this section. Light signals must be given only in case of rebuilding from one lane to another.

Signs

A certain symbol is always set before such intersections. It's called the roundabout sign. The rules of passage in each case depend on the direction of the arrows on the symbol. This means that it is allowed to turn only in the direction indicated by the sign. Reversal is prohibited. In addition, it is important to know about the following feature: the first turn must be to the right.

Most often, the “Give way” symbol is installed simultaneously with this sign. This is a requirement, which means that the person driving the vehicle must not start moving or perform any other maneuver if this will provoke other participants with an advantage to change their speed or trajectory. Outwardly, it looks like an inverted white triangle with a red border.

It is important to know that the “Roundabout” symbol is not a priority sign. The rules for driving such a section directly depend on whether a sign is installed simultaneously with it, which stands for a requirement to take into account the priority of traffic participants moving in the intersection zone. Often regulation is carried out using the sign "Main Road".

Previously, if these symbols were absent, the driver was obliged to give the right of way to vehicles that were in relation to him on the right. On November 8, 2017, new rules for driving roundabouts came into force. According to them, any vehicle moving through this area has an advantage over cars that are just about to enter this area. In other words, the right-hand rule for such intersections is no longer relevant.

If there are traffic lights or priority signs, you must move according to their conditions.

The need to prevent chaos on the road is due to changes in the rules of travel. Roundabouts used to be associated with areas where there was a high risk of crashes. Before the amendments, the driver had to give way to other participants only if there was a sign indicating the corresponding requirement. If the symbol was absent, the person driving the vehicle had the advantage. These rules were recognized as imperfect, since accidents were recorded very often at roundabouts. From now on, the emergency situation is created much less frequently. This is due to the fact that drivers have clearly understood that the right of way has a vehicle moving in a circle.

Often in such areas with a large area, a sign "Pedestrian crossing" is installed. The zone for passers-by is not regulated in any way. According to the rules for passing roundabouts, the driver in all cases without exception must give way to pedestrians. It is important to know that not only those passers-by who have already stepped on the zebra with at least one foot, but also those who are just about to make a maneuver, that is, persons who are in close proximity to the sign or markings, have the priority right to move.

This moment is not regulated in any way by traffic rules. There are no rules for passing a roundabout regarding a particular lane, however, in order to avoid an emergency situation, it is recommended to listen to the following tips:

  • It is allowed to enter an intersection with roundabouts organized on it from any lane. According to clause 8.5 of the SDA, the driver must change lanes in advance to the right lane before making any maneuver. At the same time, sections with circular motion are an exception to the Rules. In other words, the driver can enter the intersection from absolutely any lane. But it is important to consider the occupied row. For example, when entering from the left lane, it is unacceptable to change lanes to the rightmost lane. This is due to the fact that when making this maneuver, the risk of an accident is significantly increased.
  • If the number of lanes at the intersection does not match their number on the section of the road along which the vehicle is moving, the motorist is obliged to change lanes in advance in the desired lane.
  • If a person driving a car needs to turn right, it is advisable to take the appropriate lane. This recommendation is also relevant for drivers who want to change direction and move to the left.
  • It is advisable to occupy the central lane if necessary, continue to move straight.

Features of making a right turn

According to the rules of the road, roundabouts must be carried out counterclockwise. Therefore, a driver intending to turn right must slow down and turn on the appropriate light signal in advance. In addition, he must rebuild in advance. In this case, the far right lane.

According to the new rules of the crossing, roundabouts should be organized as comfortable as possible for all participants. A driver who intends to enter such an intersection must make sure that other vehicles pass him. This is true during rush hour, when the traffic is at its most intense and most people have the right of way, making it quite difficult for a new participant to maneuver.

It is important to remember that the traffic rules for passing roundabouts are very strictly regulated. According to them, at the entrance, the driver is obliged to give way to all vehicles moving in a circle.

Features of making a left turn

Before the maneuver is carried out, it is necessary to change lanes to the appropriate lane. If there are more of them than in the area that the driver intends to leave, you need to take the left lane.

If the intersection involves two-lane traffic, a different algorithm must be followed. You need to start the maneuver in the left lane. As soon as the first or second congress is overcome, you must immediately change lanes to the right. In this case, it is important not to forget to turn on the appropriate turn signals.

The rules for passing a roundabout at a three-lane intersection are similar to those described above. The only difference is that the driver needs to change lanes to the right lane twice. Performing this maneuver requires maximum concentration. It must be carried out carefully, in a timely manner and adequately assessing the situation on the road.

Forward travel

Any number of secondary roads can adjoin such intersections. It is this feature that is decisive for drivers; a person is guided by it when assessing their actions on the roadway:

  • If there are more than 2 lanes at the intersection, you must take the middle one.
  • If there are 2 rows on the site, the choice of the optimal zone directly depends on the traffic situation that prevailed at the time the driver made the maneuver. At the same time, it is important to remember the need to comply with the requirements of priority signs, if any.
  • It is allowed to cross a roundabout in order to move further in the forward direction and in the right lane. But it is important to remember that in this case the driver may interfere with another participant who intends to make a right turn from the middle lane.

Thus, it is most expedient to carry out movement along the middle lane. At the same time, it is important to remember the need to give way to all passers-by if there is a pedestrian crossing at the intersection.

Features of the exit from the site

This situation is strictly regulated by traffic rules. According to the Rules, it is necessary to leave the intersection where traffic in a circle is organized only from the right lane.

In this case, the driver, immediately before changing lanes to the desired lane, is obliged to adequately assess the current situation and give way to all vehicles located on the right in relation to him. This is due to the fact that overtaking is allowed at roundabouts. In addition, it is possible to stop on them, but only on condition that the distance from the border of the confluence of the carriageway and this section is at least 5 m.

Thus, all drivers must clearly remember the following rule: entry is allowed from any lane, exit - only from the right.

Regulated roundabouts

In this case, the entire site is a single object, and a traffic light is installed at each entrance. As a rule, such a scheme is used only at intersections of a small area, where secondary roads are clearly visible. For large areas, it is not always relevant.

Rules for driving with traffic lights:

  • The circular movement is carried out according to the requirements of the signal light. If it is enabled, the driver must ignore the priority signs.
  • If, for any reason, the traffic controller has assumed responsibility for organizing traffic, it is necessary to follow his orders, even if they contradict traffic signals.
  • Vehicles at the roundabout have priority. When the permission signal is turned on, which has a green color, the entering driver is obliged to give way (including pedestrians). He must also make sure that all participants in the movement have completed the initiated maneuver.

If the requirements of the signal light contradict the signs, it is necessary to focus on the installed symbols, and not on the traffic light.

The amount of monetary compensation is regulated by the Code of Administrative Offenses. If you enter a roundabout at a time when the traffic light is red, the driver faces a fine of 1000 rubles.

If a motorist commits a gross violation repeatedly, the amount of monetary compensation is 5 times larger. As an alternative, a penalty is used, which implies the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of 4 months to six months. The choice of sanctions against the violator is carried out by the court.

A penalty is also imposed in the following situations:

  • The driver did not grant the right of way to vehicles at the intersection.
  • Crossing the site in the opposite lane.
  • The driver did not turn on the appropriate light signal while changing lanes.
  • Departure from a roundabout from the center or left lane.
  • Parking.

In such cases, a fine of 1000 rubles is imposed.

According to the new rules of passage, roundabouts should be comfortable for all participants. Stopping at an intersection is allowed only when the distance to the crossed carriageway is 5 m or more. Failure to comply with this condition threatens with a fine of 500 rubles.

Ignoring the requirement of the sign to observe the direction of movement leads to the deprivation of a driver's license. It is important for drivers to remember that the intersection, where the right-hand movement of vehicles is organized, must be passed counterclockwise.

Finally

Since November 2017, some changes have come into effect. From now on, new roundabout rules apply. According to them, vehicles located directly at the intersection have the right of priority to move. New road users must give way to them. This rule is relevant for unregulated intersections. If there is a traffic light, you must be guided by its signals. For non-compliance with the rules, a fine is imposed on the violator, the amount of which varies from 500 to 5000 rubles.

After the introduction of amendments to the existing requirements for the movement of the ring, many drivers do not know how to behave in this section or doubt the correctness of their actions.

What is such an intersection?

An intersection is a place of intersection, junction or branching of roads on a single-level plane, which can be limited in the imagination. It should be borne in mind that junctions with bridge platforms do not belong to intersections and other rules of passage are observed at them.

There is a certain classification of intersections:

  • adjustable;
  • unregulated;
  • with circular motion.

When considering each type separately, it is possible to identify differences in the use of these road intersections. At present, interest has increased in roundabouts, where traffic is regulated according to new rules from November 8, 2017.

When a roundabout is established at the intersection of roads, there are no traffic lights.

Such a territory is marked out as an island where vehicles move in a counter-clockwise direction (valid for right-hand traffic). When leaving the circle, drivers follow the normal pattern of traffic.

How to move correctly

Prior to the Decree of the Government of 08.11.2017 that came into force, at roundabouts, drivers were guided by the following requirements:

  1. In the presence of unequal crossing roads, the car approaching along the main one has priority. Drivers driving vehicles with traffic on a secondary road give way to vehicles with priority. The direction of cars on the main road is not taken into account.
  2. Tram vehicles have an advantage over other road users moving in the same or another direction on an equivalent road. Moreover, the direction of the tram movement is not taken into account.
  3. In the case of equivalence of intersecting roads, drivers of trackless vehicles must yield to vehicles that are approaching from the right (right-hand rule). But if there is a tram, you should stop and give it priority.
  4. If combined signs 4.3 and 2.4 (2.5) are installed in front of the roundabout, cars on the roundabout have priority over other vehicles that wish to enter the intersection.

After updating the traffic rules, amendments began to work from November 2017:

  • the right-hand rule is omitted, implying the fact that vehicle drivers do not give way to cars on the right (a similar amendment works for trams);
  • with sign 3, drivers must give priority to cars on the ring.

Thus, in 2020, traffic participants at the entrance to the circle do not enjoy the advantage. Vehicles already at the intersection are given priority. You should familiarize yourself with the nuances of the correct movement on the ring.

Lane selection

The DD rules regulate that the entrance to the circle can be carried out from any lane of the adjacent road.

With regard to the need to overcome the ring, it is advisable to give preference to a certain lane:

  • turn right or go straight - it is recommended to occupy the right lane;
  • turn left (reversal) - it is better to change lanes to the left lane;
  • rectilinear overcoming - occupation of the central lane.

If you want to make a right turn, you should slow down and turn on the appropriate turn signal to rebuild the desired lane. Without fail, the rule is not missed that the driver is convinced that there are no other vehicles or his pass. These rules of conduct help avoid interference.

A left turn or U-turn obliges you to first exit to the left lane (the presence of several lanes implies occupying the leftmost lane).

The presence of other road users should be assessed and the necessary turn signals should be turned on. After overcoming the first, second or third exit in the case of a three-lane division, it is recommended to take the right lane.

Rectilinear movement is facilitated by a three-lane road division. In this situation, drivers move to the center lane. When two-lane traffic is observed, the general situation is assessed and the driver is convinced of the legality of his actions.

It is allowed to drive in the right lane with a further choice of a direct direction, but then the risk of an accident increases due to the fact that vehicles from the middle lane can announce the beginning of a right turn maneuver.

Therefore, the preliminary occupation of the middle row or one of the central lanes allows you to overcome the ring without creating interference.

Please note: Before entering the circle, it is worth giving way to pedestrians if an appropriate sign is installed.

Rules for exiting a roundabout

Guided by the rules of the road, every driver should know that the exit to the ring can be carried out from any lane, but you should leave only from the right lane.

It must be remembered that special conditions of movement must be observed:

  • an objective assessment of the traffic situation and the presence of other road users;
  • in the presence of vehicles that move on the right, it is required to give them priority.

If the conditions are met by all drivers, then the likelihood of getting into an accident is reduced significantly.

Regarding overtaking and stopping at roundabouts, the following requirements are established:

  • drivers are allowed to overtake other vehicles when passing roundabouts;
  • stop should be 5 m from the border of the connection between the road and the territory of the intersection.

Knowing about the features of entry, exit, overtaking and stopping within the ring section of traffic, drivers of cars and other vehicles can reduce the statistics of accidents on the roads.

Liability for traffic violations

Violation of traffic rules in Russia involves bringing to administrative responsibility. Based on the nature of the identified offense and the resulting consequences, a different amount of fine is imposed. The decision on payment is made by the traffic police officer who established the fact of violation.

The following circumstances are possible at roundabouts, the occurrence of which entails payments:

  • entry into the intersection to the forbidding light of a traffic light device;
  • the driver did not give priority to another participant who must use it;
  • moving in the direction of oncoming traffic;
  • the absence of an included turn signal when rebuilding;
  • exit from the intersection is not from the right lane;
  • the vehicle has stopped or parked for a long time within the ring.

The following penalties currently apply:

Therefore, when marking an intersection with a roundabout sign (sign 4.3), certain rules must be observed to prevent an emergency and avoid a penalty.

Is it possible to challenge

You have 10 days to appeal. During this time, it is necessary to file a complaint with the court or the inspection department to which the traffic police officer who imposed the fine is attached.

But there must be a good reason for the challenge:

  1. Absence of violation - when the inspector writes out a fine, but he has no evidence, then in court such cases are rarely decided in favor of the culprit. Officials motivate the refusal by the fact that the actions of the traffic police officer comply with the conditions of the oath. Such a reason can be supplemented by another reason, which brings a positive outcome.
  2. The corpus delicti was not identified - the guilt was not recognized, the culprit was not identified, there is no danger to society. This reason can be considered, for example, when the car was driven by a minor.
  3. The fact of the violation was revealed in circumstances of extreme necessity - serious conditions and causing damage, less important than in preventing the violation, entail the cancellation of the punishment or prosecution under another article. For example, the driver had to turn from the wrong lane and take advantage of the fact that otherwise a fatal outcome is likely.

Each case of violation should be considered individually and have evidence of innocence or evidence of preventing a situation with more serious consequences.

To avoid long red tape with an appeal, you should drive carefully and correctly overcome the established roundabouts.

Many complex nuances carry the rules for driving a roundabout in 2019. So roundabouts according to traffic rules should be carried out with the right choice of lane, speed, use of light devices (turn signals), etc. But since November 2017, significant changes have been made to the Rules - now the road inside the roundabout is considered the main one.

Ensuring road safety is considered a legal obligation for every driver. It can be implemented in only one way - by observing the Rules of the road. Each driver must not only know, but also understand how to act in every situation on the road.

Roundabout - what is it?

According to regulations, such intersections are considered to be road sections where two or more roads intersect, made in the form of an island in the center, around which traffic is carried out counterclockwise.

The latter applies only to roads with right-hand traffic. In countries where left-hand traffic is carried out, the passage of such an intersection is carried out clockwise. Thus, the movement in a circle is carried out until the car leaves this section on the desired road.

Such intersections have their own advantages. According to the traffic rules, roundabouts at the intersection cannot be subject to regulation (for example, to put a traffic light or a traffic controller). As already mentioned, in 2017 a new driving rule was adopted - now the vehicle that moves inside the ring has the advantage in traffic. Vehicles entering the circle must give way. Thus, the ring is always considered the main road.

Important! The use of direction indicators is optional when entering a roundabout. But it is always necessary when the driver changes lanes inside the ring and pulls out onto the road.

Roundabout sign

A special sign is fixed in the rules of the road, which informs the driver that there is a roundabout ahead. It is made in a round shape. Three arrows are drawn in a circle on the blue color of the background, which show the direction counterclockwise. In regulatory enactments, such a sign is referred to as 4.3.

Important! On roads with left-hand traffic, the direction of the arrows on the sign will be different - clockwise.

In connection with the adopted changes, since 2018, another one has been installed under this sign. We are talking about the sign of priority 2.4 or 2.5. These are the so-called "give way" (triangular shape with a white background and a red frame) and "no non-stop movement" (a red polyhedron with the inscription STOP in the middle). Their difference is that when driving near the second sign, the driver is obliged to stop in any case, even if there is no other vehicle on the road.

Thus, the driver in front of the intersection where the movement is carried out along the ring will see the following combination of signs:

  • Sign 4.3 "Roundabout";
  • Sign 2.4 "Give way" or 2.5 "Movement without stopping is prohibited."

Lane selection while driving through a roundabout

According to the traffic rules, it does not matter from which lane of the adjacent road the driver enters the roundabout. But inside the intersection there are some nuances that need to be considered.

If during the movement there is a need to turn off at the next exit from the circle, then, of course, it is advisable to take the extreme right lane in order to avoid an emergency.

Advice. If the driver knows that he will enter the roundabout, and he will need to leave at the first exit, then it is best to immediately take the right lane even before leaving the circle.

What you need to know when performing a maneuver?

First of all, traffic rules oblige every driver to be careful on the road. In the case of roundabouts, such attention should be maximized. Failure to comply with certain requirements may lead to the creation of an emergency situation and a traffic accident.

When rebuilding, one should not forget about the correct rebuilding and turning on the turn signals at the same time. It is also necessary to carefully look into the rear-view mirrors, but at the same time do not forget that in this case there are “dead zones”, because the car moves in a circular path.

Important advice. Many drivers are poorly informed about innovations in traffic rules. Thus, they can, out of habit, enter the circle without missing the cars that were moving there. Thus, it is advisable to observe the behavior of other cars that enter the circle, and be extremely careful with them.

Fine for violating the rules of driving around the ring

If the driver passes the intersection incorrectly, violating traffic rules, he will be held accountable for his act. The Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses (KOaP) provides for such a type of punishment as a fine. Its size will depend on how grossly the driver violated the rules, what the consequences could be, and also take into account the number of such offenses committed by the driver over the past year.

There cannot be traffic lights and a traffic controller at the roundabout, so the driver cannot be imputed to article 12.12. Therefore, article 12.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses governs the prosecution of a driver for incorrect passage of a roundabout. According to it, a driver is held liable if he did not yield to other road users (including cars) that they took advantage of the traffic.

Important! The amount of the administrative fine in 2019 is 1000 (one thousand) Russian rubles. If the driver does not pay the fine, then he can replace the punishment with a more serious one, up to the withdrawal of a driver's license.

But there are other offenses that a driver can commit at an intersection:

  1. Driving in the opposite lane, which in this case will look like going clockwise around the circle. In this case, at least a fine of 1,500 rubles will be issued, and if this has entailed or could have entailed consequences, the rights will be withdrawn.
  2. Non-inclusion of direction indicators during rebuilding and exit from the circle. It is regarded as a violation of the rules of maneuvering, and is punishable by a fine of 1000 rubles.
  3. The exit from the roundabout is not from the far right lane. It is regarded as a violation of the rules of rebuilding (maneuvering).
  4. Parking at the crossroads. The SDA forbids deliberately stopping or parking cars near the intersection (10 meters away) or at the intersection itself. In this case, they can not only issue a fine (minimum - 500 rubles), but even temporarily detain the vehicle (take it to the penalty area).

Drawing conclusions

First of all, it must be emphasized once again that driving through a roundabout is a rather complicated procedure that requires the driver to be extremely attentive and have high knowledge of traffic rules.

It is also necessary to remember the new changes in the traffic rules - now the road inside (the circle) is considered the main one. And the cars that move along it have an advantage. Even if other signs are installed at the intersection that “lead” the main road in a different way, they must be ignored, observing the requirements of the rules.

It is important not to forget about the correct rebuilding between the lanes inside the circle, the correct exit from it, and the use of all turn signals. As mentioned above, it is important not to forget about the dead zones in the driver's (left) mirror.

Video lesson on circular motion

Attention!
Due to frequent changes in the administrative laws of the Russian Federation and traffic rules, we do not always have time to update the information on the site, in this regard free legal experts are working for you around the clock!

Legislation should be structured in such a way as to exclude the possibility of double interpretation. However, the reality is that when driving at roundabouts (rings), some turn on the left turn, others turn right, and still others do not use signs at all.

The purpose of this article is to bring clarity at this point.

If after reading the article there are objections, then I would like them to be MOTIVATED, with references to paragraphs of the Rules, etc. The statements “I was taught this way in a driving school” are not correct, if only because since 2000, changes in traffic rules have been made to one degree or another 25 (!) Times. Moreover, the last - December 17, 2013.

I was also taught in the distant 90s in a completely different way than it is written here.

So the ring. Although, I'm more impressed with the name "roundabout", because the term itself contains an indication of section 13 of the SDA, which is responsible for the passage of intersections. Plus, since we are moving, changing our location, it is necessary to remember the 8th section of the Rules.

When driving through an intersection where a roundabout is organized, it is necessary to highlight three main points:

1. Entry to the intersection;

2. Traffic at the intersection;

3. Exit from the intersection.

Entrance to the intersection

Paragraph 8.5 of the Rules says that before turning it is necessary to take the appropriate extreme position, except when turning into an intersection where a roundabout is organized. Thus, we conclude that you can take any lane for entry (taking into account the restrictions imposed by clause 9.4 of the SDA).

What kind of turn signal should be included, and should it be used at all?

Mandatory sign 4.3 says that it is allowed to drive ONLY and EXCLUSIVELY in the direction of the arrows on the sign, i.e. COUNTERCLOCK-WISE. Movement "clockwise" forms a side of the administrative offense under Art. 12.15 h. 4 - which entails the deprivation of a driver's license.

Thus, when entering an intersection where a roundabout is organized, you can only make a RIGHT turn - other trajectories are excluded.

By virtue of clause 8.1 of the SDA, the driver is obliged to give signals in the appropriate direction before turning.

Therefore, despite the fact that when entering, we make an exclusively RIGHT turn (other maneuvers are impossible), we must turn on the RIGHT turn indicator.

Depending on what type of intersection it belongs to, we apply certain paragraphs of the Rules. Namely:

- Regulated intersection - we move based on traffic lights or traffic controllers;

Unregulated intersection of equivalent roads - entering traffic has the priority right to move over traffic moving along the ring;

Unregulated intersection of unequal roads - we move based on the requirements of priority signs. If a sign 2.4 (give way) or 2.5 (non-stop driving is prohibited) is placed before the entrance, then the driver on the roundabout has ADVANTAGE in motion.

As a reminder, the “Give way” requirement means that a vehicle that has the right of way must not change DIRECTION or SPEED. It is often possible to observe drivers moving according to the principle: “I have already entered the sign” and forcing those who move along the ring to resort to braking. At a speed of 60 km/h, a car travels 15 meters per second. Consider this, "falling out" 10 meters before the approaching transport at a speed much lower.

Crossroad traffic

You can often see drivers using the LEFT turn signal.

Let's figure out what a turn is. Unfortunately, the SDA does not contain a wording of the concept of "turn", but given the fact that in the Russian Federation the official language is Russian, we turn to Ozhegov S.I., who interprets the turn as "the place where they turn" (change movement). With regard to the Rules, given that roads intersect at intersections, begin, end, we can conclude that a Turn is an exit to another road (or adjacent territory).

Given this, it immediately becomes clear why no one uses signs on the curves of the road marked with signs 1.11 (dangerous turn) or 1.12 (dangerous turns).

Thus, in a circular motion, we have only two possible trajectories of motion:

- “In a circle”, in the direction of the arrows on sign 4.3 (circular traffic);

Or leave the ring by making a RIGHT turn.

Therefore, if we are moving along a roundabout without changing lanes, we DO NOT turn on the direction indicators. If you still decide to change lanes, then you must turn on the indicator of the corresponding direction. And the rebuilding maneuver must comply with the requirements of clause 8.4 of the SDA (when rebuilding, give way to the one who moves along the way without changing the direction of movement. Simultaneous rebuilding - give way to the one on the right).

Departure from the ring

Departure from the ring is carried out according to the general requirements of the maneuvering rules (clauses 8.5, 8.6) - from the extreme RIGHT to the extreme RIGHT, unless signs 5.15.1 and 5.15.2 (direction of movement along the lanes) provide a different procedure.

Therefore, turn on the RIGHT turn signal.

In Petrozavodsk, one can often observe accidents involving drivers moving either from the center of the ring or from the middle lane (for example, the ring on Chapaev). It must be understood that in the absence of signs or markings indicating the permitted directions of movement along the lanes for driving DIRECTLY (along the ring), you can use ANY (right or left) lane, while the exit is only from the RIGHT lane.

Summarizing all of the above:

We enter the ring - turn on the RIGHT turn signal.

We move along the ring - a pointer is not required.

We move out - turn on the RIGHT pointer again.

What should I pay attention to when driving roundabouts according to the new traffic rules? Who will be right and who is to blame in an accident on the circle? And why the circle is different.

We are sure that many motorists have heard and know that from November 8, new rules for driving roundabouts came into effect. The passage of the circle is fixed by a decree of the Government of the Russian Federation and states that drivers approaching a roundabout are required to give way to cars that are already moving at a roundabout.

If you have not heard about this yet, you can familiarize yourself with these rules on the pages of our Internet edition of the site:

On paper, everything looks good. What motorists have been waiting for a long time has finally happened. However, reality itself cannot be changed immediately with a stroke of the pen, and most importantly, it is impossible to change the habit of motorists who have been passing such specific intersections for years using a completely different algorithm.

Observing the Brownian motion at such intersections, we came to the conclusion that, in our opinion, it only intensified to a certain extent. This is a normal reaction for the transition period, which by the way can last a year or more. It is necessary to know certain nuances in order not to get into an unpleasant situation, which can lead to an incorrect interpretation of this innovation in the rules of the road.

First, you first need to decide on the types of roundabouts. In total, there are two types of them: these are equivalent and unequal intersections. What is their fundamental difference? Let's consider everything in more detail.

Equivalent roundabout

If you drive up to the circle you see such a sign ( Sign 4.3),

then this means that you are entering an equivalent intersection. Changes in the rules from November 8 just govern the passage of these intersections. Therefore, if approaching the intersection you see only sign 4.3, then the algorithm of your actions in this case will be as follows:

YOU GIVE ROAD TO CARS THAT ARE MOVING IN A CIRCLE.

As soon as you are on the circle itself, then you are required to let all cars entering the intersection already pass.

The main thing is that you must remember this and memorize it from now on.

Uneven roundabout

This type of intersections, like the previous one, has not gone away and it is unlikely that it will ever be completely abolished. Local traffic police authorities, at their discretion, in addition to sign 4.3 indicating a circle, sometimes set priority signs:

Sign 2.1 "Main Road"

Sign 2.4 "Give way"

This is dictated by the organization of traffic on the ground.

It is precisely in these intersections that the greatest danger for motorists lurks. One gets the feeling that some drivers, having inattentively read the updated rules of the road, decided for themselves that the above signs are no longer valid, they say they have not had time to remove them yet, they begin to drive in circles ahead and thus create emergency situations. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT THIS! SIGNS WORK! New roundabout rules here not spread. Everything remains the same. Let's remind everyone again.

The following paragraphs of the rules govern the passage of such intersections:

13.9. At the intersection of unequal roads, the driver of a vehicle moving along a secondary road must give way to vehicles approaching along the main road, regardless of the direction of their further movement.

13.10. In the case when the main road changes direction at an intersection, drivers moving along the main road must be guided by the rules for passing the intersections of equivalent roads. The same rules should be followed by drivers moving on secondary roads.

Thus, it must be remembered that when approaching the intersection from the side of the “Give way” sign, it is necessary to give way to cars located on the main road accordingly. If the circle or part of the circle is a main road and it intersects with another main road that is adjacent to the circle, then the driver must follow the rule of interference from the right, i.e. give way to the vehicle with the right of way.

This is the second important rule you need to know.

What should you do to avoid getting into an accident at the intersection?

Pay close attention to posted signs and be vigilant. Even having the right of way in the passage and seeing that the other participant in the movement is not going to give way to you, it is better to let him through, perhaps he has not yet heard about the innovation or just got confused on the road.

Penalty for breaking a circle

Penalty for not giving advantage in a roundabout in accordance with Article 12.13,- failure to comply with the requirement of the Rules of the Road to give way to a vehicle that enjoys the right of way at intersections, is 1.000 rubles.

Please do not forget about some other opportunities to get fined. They are of course less common, but cause no less damage to the wallet:

Movement on the "oncoming", against the movement in a circle - 5.000 rubles or deprivation of a driver's license for 4 - 6 months.

Violation of the requirements of signs or markings when driving in a circle - a warning or a fine 500 rubles.
