How to calculate your excess weight online. The ratio of height and weight in men

What does the ideal weight of a woman mean, what indicators are considered optimal for the stronger sex? In general, these values are a combination of a number of factors: gender, height, body volume, psychological state, tendency to be overweight, and others. They are taken into account using methods for calculating indicators that are close to ideal. When using them, it is worth remembering that the average results are given. In real life, they are guided not by numbers, but by a feeling of comfort and inner harmony.

 • growth, age;
 • the ratio of mass, body volume;
 • Brock's method, Quetelet;
 • formulas of Nagler, John McCallum, Devin.

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is an indicator that determines how proportional the ratio of weight and height of a person is. Doctors often calculate the optimal method of therapy for dystrophy and obesity. The index is useful to know for those who want to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the state of health and calculate the number of missing or excess kilograms. This indicator is considered simple: it is necessary to divide a person’s weight (in kg) by his height (in meters), squared.

The following BMI values are distinguished: less than 15 - acute weight loss; from 15 to 18.5 - underweight; from 18.5 to 24 - normal weight; from 25 to 29 - overweight; from 30 - 40 - obesity; more than 40 - severe obesity.

People with a high BMI (more than 35) find it difficult to move around, overcome distances on foot, and climb stairs. Excess fat causes serious diseases:

 • hypertension, migraine;
 • atherosclerosis, varicose veins;
 • diseases of the joints, heart;
 • diabetes mellitus, skin lesions.

It is worth getting rid of excess weight by developing a set of measures, including diet, physical activity, sleep, rest, normalization of the psychological state.

Going in for sports, balancing the diet is also recommended in cases where the BMI is normal, and the figure looks haggard, middle-aged, the skin becomes sagging, flabby. Correct the situation with special diets, moderate sports activities aimed at gaining lean muscle mass.

Optimal indicators for growth, age

How to understand, taking into account age, height, that you have extra pounds? It is recommended to use the calculation developed by WHO. You can calculate the ideal body weight for the fairer sex as follows:

 • height (centimeters) multiplied by 3, subtract 450, add age (years);
 • multiply the resulting figure by 0.25, add 40;
 • a comparison table will help you check the result.

Another calculation method will help determine the excess weight of men:

 • height in centimeters is multiplied by 3, subtract 450, age is added;
 • the result obtained is multiplied by a factor of 0.25, 45 is added;
 • check the data in the table.

Brock's method

Calculate excess weight will help the technology developed by the French surgeon anthropologist Paul Brock. Based on the height of a person. Up to 165 cm, subtract 100, 166-175 cm, subtract 105, with indicators more than 170 cm - 110. The creator of the formula suggests adjusting the determined number, taking into account the physique:

 • Normosthenic (normal) - the figure is proportionately folded, the height is average, the legs are slender, the waist is thin. The muscles are well developed, the fat layer is the minimum necessary for good health.
 • Asthenic (small) - the body is elongated, the transverse parameters are less than the longitudinal ones. The chest is narrow, flat, the neck, the limbs are thin, long, the face of the types is thin, the nose is thin. The muscles of asthenic people are poorly developed, the tendency to be overweight is minimal. Obesity occurs with serious diseases: after surgery, trauma, metabolic disorders, hormonal disruptions.
 • Hypersthenic (large) - the transverse parameters of the body are greater than the longitudinal ones, the bones, the skeleton are wide, heavy, the legs are short and dense. A person's height is usually less than average, the tendency to be overweight is high.

Thin-boned asthenics with transverse dimensions are much smaller than longitudinal ones; it is necessary to subtract 10% from the resulting figure. Hypersthenics with short legs, wide hips, chest should add 10% to the resulting indicator. Normasthenics with a proportional body do not need to change the final value, the main one is to consider the final figure.

Brock's technique, the nuances of calculations

Using the method, the parameter of the calculated ideal weight is corrected for age. Nutritionists, naturopaths experts consider the figures to be true for the fairer sex 40-50 years old. Girls from 20 to 30 years old should reduce the numbers by 10-12%, ladies 50+ add 5-7%.

It makes no sense to find out your excess weight by Brock's method for adolescents under 18, pregnant, lactating women. It is irrelevant for athletes, bodybuilders, those whose training is aimed at actively building muscle mass. For them, there are other ways to calculate the ratio of adipose tissue, muscles, which will help determine thinness, obesity.

Quetelet index

Extra pounds will help determine the formula for calculating Quetelet. The results obtained show the degree of obesity, thinness of women, men aged 20-65 years. The results of calculations are distorted during pregnancy, feeding, adolescence under 18, in adults aged 46+, athletes.

To determine normal weight, BMI is calculated: mass (kilograms) is divided by height squared (square meters). Example:

 • I have weight 67, height 170;
 • it turns out: 67: (1.7 x 1.7) = 23.18

The results are compared with the table data:

Quetelet formula, taking into account age, physique

Norms are calculated according to a formula that takes into account physique and age. When calculating, the mass (grams) is divided by height (centimeters), the data obtained are compared according to the table.

The Quetelet index indicates the amount of fat in the body, but does not allow you to know how the layer is distributed in different parts of the body. The formula described below will help to check the figure for ideality.

Dependence of mass on body volumes

How to find out by the volume of the figure that it's time to go on a diet? If different methods have been tried, but the appearance is repulsive, a calculation option that takes into account volumes will help to check for excess weight:

 • measure the waist circumference at the level of the navel, cm;
 • determine the volume of the buttocks, cm;
 • the first indicator is divided by the second, the result is compared with the data corresponding to the norm.

How much should it be? The coefficient is as follows: women - 0.65-0.85, men - 0.85-1.

John McCallum Method

John McCallum's formula is considered accurate, based on measuring the circumferences of various parts of the body. The obtained indicators are average, suitable for people of different ages, builds, according to them you will understand for sure whether the figure is proportional or not.

How is it determined whether there is overweight according to McCallum? A theoretical scientist suggested focusing on the circumference of the wrist (cm). First we measure, the result is multiplied by 6.5. Ideally, the figure will correspond to the girth of the chest. Further, taking the obtained data as a basis, we calculate the percentage ratio of the parameters of the wrist to the rest of the body:

 • 70% - waist circumference;
 • 85% - hip circumference;
 • 37% - neck girth;
 • 53% - thigh circumference;
 • 29% - forearm girth;
 • 36% - bicep circumference;
 • 34% - calf girth.

The formula for calculating with a tendency to completeness

With an innate tendency to be overweight, there is a separate technique that determines the parameters of the figure. A detailed description is found in the book Diet for People with a Low Metabolism by Barbara Edelstein.

The calculations are carried out in stages. First, we determine what weight could be with a normal metabolism. Example: the optimal weight is 50 kilograms, we add 1 kilogram to it for each centimeter of growth over 150. To the resulting figure we add ½ kilogram for each year, starting from 25. In general, no more than 7 kilograms are added.

Let's correct the data:

 • add 4.5-7 kilograms;
 • then we add 4-7 kilograms (if the mass is more than 90);
 • plus 2-3 kilograms (if body weight is more than 100 kg).

Example: the height of a 48-year-old lady is 155, weight is 95. We get: 45 + 1 x (155 - 150) + 7 + 7 + 7 = 71 kilograms.

The resulting figure is a reference indicator for a particular case. Losing weight up to 60-62 kilograms will cause health problems. If in the future the lady wants to get better, she will quickly return to her original positions. Moreover, it will become fuller, while the appetite will be uncontrollable, which threatens with obesity.

How not to make mistakes in calculations

Using the formula you like, take into account that the parameters of the figure change depending on the time of day, day of the week, month. This is normal, because each organism is subject to individual physiological fluctuations. Body weight fluctuates due to nutrition, rest, sleep, climate, well-being, various factors. Accurate data are obtained by weighing no more than 1 time per week.

The female body is a thin structure, where the mass fluctuates depending on the critical days, the amount of water drunk. If in the morning the weight was 61 kilograms, and by the evening it became 62 - do not panic, urgently lose weight, connect a diet. Such fullness is a temporary phenomenon that does not deserve close attention.

Overweight bodybuilders, athletes - a common thing. Their training in most cases is aimed at building a relief muscular figure. The muscles of people involved in sports weigh twice as much as body fat. This is a normal, natural phenomenon.

BMI, is it worth blindly believing the results?

Body mass index is a relative value, based on statistics that take into account the peculiarities of the physique of people from different countries. In most cases, BMI is higher than normal, for example, if a person’s bones are wide, heavy, the figure is muscular, dense. This is normal, once again proves that you do not need to immediately go on a diet, exhaust the body with workouts.

According to WHO data, more than half of the population in Russia suffers from stage I obesity. If we compare the US data, it turns out that Americans are much more likely than Russians to overeat and become obese.

 1. Nutritionists, naturopathic doctors believe that a person should monitor their own weight and well-being. This mobilizes the body, increases the desire to lead a healthy lifestyle, adhere to the rules of nutrition, play sports.
 2. Psychologists oppose BMI calculations, deeply convinced that online calculators are to blame for the growing number of users who are dissatisfied with the figure.

Whatever calculation formula you choose, focus on general well-being, listen to the sensations inside the body. A sharp decrease in weight is fraught with serious consequences, especially in chronic diseases. If it is difficult for you to determine how severe obesity is, you should resort to the help of a nutritionist.

The mass of the human body is determined by its constitution and general health. The calculation and proportions of height and weight in men directly depend on these indicators - the higher the person, the more he weighs, and vice versa. There is also a certain formula by which you can calculate your ideal parameters.

Some representatives of the stronger sex pay considerable attention to their appearance.

The optimal proportions of height and weight in men are determined by:

 1. their height;
 2. heaviness of the bones;
 3. chest volume;
 4. the amount of fat relative to muscle tissue in the body.

The last factor is not always taken into account, but plays an important role for athletes. The normal ratio of height and weight in men, if they do not have health problems, is a constant value, strong changes in which indicate the presence of internal problems. How to set the correct proportions?

Ratio Calculation Methods

There are many options for calculating your ideal indicators. A quick way to calculate the height-to-weight ratio for men is to use one of these charts:

 1. Brunhard's formula - chest circumference and height in cm are taken into account, the values are multiplied and divided by 240, the result is determined in the corresponding table;
 2. Neger's formula - 152.4 is subtracted from the height in centimeters, the resulting number is multiplied by 1.1 and 48 is added to it, the description is similar to the previous one.

By body type

To determine the correspondence between height and weight in men, you can use the norms for each of the body types, in total there are three of them:

 1. normal - normosthenic;
 2. lean - asthenic;
 3. dense - hypersthenic.

Belonging to one of these species is assessed visually. When in doubt, use the test:

 1. grasp the wrist of the other with the thumb and middle fingers of one hand;
 2. if this is easy to do, you have an asthenic type;
 3. the wrist is covered with difficulty - normosthenic;
 4. fails at all - hypersthenic.

Another method suggests measuring the length of the wrist, where 17 cm or less is a lean physique, from 17 cm to 20 cm is normal, and over 20 cm is obese.

Also, auxiliary tables are used for evaluation, which indicate the optimal weight for different types of addition.

Three body types for men and women

Astenik

Such a person has practically no fat layer, which is normally from 11% to 18% of body weight. It has narrow and light bones, narrowed shoulders and elongated limbs. Often such people are called thin-boned and they are characterized by an accelerated metabolism.

All these data serve as a physiological prerequisite for a small number of kilograms. At the same height, the weight of the asthenic is lower than that of the normosthenic by an average of 2 kg (or 10%).

Normostenik

This is the most balanced type of constitution, conditionally accepted as normal. It is characterized by an average rate of metabolic processes in the body.

The weight and height norm for men of this type is on average higher than that of an asthenic by about 10%, which is about 2 kg and 12-14% lower than that of hypersthenics.

Hypersthenic

Such a physique has pronounced external signs:

 1. broad shoulders;
 2. shortened limbs;
 3. dense short neck;
 4. voluminous massive bones.

Such people are characterized by a slow metabolism, they are often called broad-boned or dense.

Depending on age

Not all calculations take into account the number of years lived, although it is directly related to human mass indicators. A strong young guy is taller than an elderly person, therefore, body weight for each of the ages will be different.

The ideal weight for your height for men can be calculated in a simple way, taking into account the age and structural features of your body:

 1. a certain number is subtracted from the height in cm - up to 165 cm - 100, 166-175 cm - 105, more than 175 cm - 110;
 2. so you get the norm for 40-50 years, for 20-30 years this result is reduced by 10-12%, over 50 years it is increased by 5-7%.

According to Broca's formula

This weight and height formula for men has two options, the second takes into account not only the year of birth, but also belonging to one of the types:

 1. 110 is subtracted from the measured height in centimeters if the young person is under 40 years old, and 100 if he is older;
 2. this value is standard for a normosthenic, with asthenic addition it is reduced by 10%, with hypersthenic it is increased similarly.

Quetelet index

An approximate way of estimating that does not take into account the number of years a person has lived. The calculation of weight and height for men according to the Quetelet index focuses on belonging to the ideal weight or going beyond the limits of acceptable indicators. Normally, the index varies from 19 to 25.

where m is the available body weight, and h is the height in meters (it is measured in kg / m²).

Table of the ratio of height and weight in men

The most accurate data is obtained by specialists involved in measuring the proportions of the human body. The table of the ratio of height and weight for thin men looks like this:

 1. 155 cm - 49 kg;
 2. 160 cm - 53.5 kg;
 3. 165 cm - 57 kg;
 4. 170 cm - 60.5 kg;
 5. 175 cm - 65 kg;
 6. 180 cm - 69 kg;
 7. 185 cm - 73.5 kg.

Height weight table of a man with a normal physique:

 1. 155 cm - 56 kg;
 2. 160 cm - 60 kg;
 3. 165 cm - 63.5 kg;
 4. 170 cm - 68 kg;
 5. 175 cm - 72 kg;
 6. 180 cm - 75 kg;
 7. 185 cm - 79 kg.

For dense masculine representatives:

 1. 155 cm - 62 kg;
 2. 160 cm - 66 kg;
 3. 165 cm - 69.5 kg;
 4. 170 cm - 74 kg;
 5. 175 cm - 78 kg;
 6. 180 cm - 81 kg;
 7. 185 cm - 85 kg.

The most accurate parameters are given by the table weight height age of a man:

Calculator for calculating the correspondence of height and weight in men

substitute your values into the existing formula;

body weight is 50 + 0.75 (P-150) + (B-20) \ 4;

where P is your height and B is your age.

Before losing weight, a competent person must make sure that he really needs it and the problem is not far-fetched. And for this you need to know how to calculate excess weight. This will help determine exactly how many kilograms you need to lose in order to achieve ideal parameters for your gender, height and age. The only problem is that there are a huge number of calculation formulas, and no one can say for sure which one is the most accurate. Scientists say that none of them claims to be the best: each has flaws.

The classic Quetelet formula

The Quetelet formula is a universally recognized way of calculating a person's excess weight all over the world. It is approved and recommended by such an authoritative organization as WHO. That is why most people use it. Allows you to find BMI - body mass index (in the West it is an abbreviation of BMI - Body Mass Index).

Formula for calculation: I = M / H 2, where:

 • I - body mass index;
 • M - current weight in kilograms;
 • H - height in meters at the moment.
 • M=74;
 • H=1.6;
 • we calculate the square of growth: 1.6x1.6 = 2.56;
 • it turns out I = 74: 2.56 = 28.91.

Note. Hereinafter, throughout the text, all examples of calculations will be given based on these data: our conditional little man weighs 74 kg with a height of 1 m 60 cm. The rest of his parameters (age, gender, physique, wrist size) will vary. So it is more convenient at the end to compare the results obtained and draw a conclusion about the "accuracy" of the proposed formulas and methods.

According to the official WHO table, the BMI norm ranges from 18.5-24.9 (inclusive). Overweight is considered a corridor of 25-29.9, where the figure obtained in our calculation example (28.91) fell. Indicators starting at 30 are already obese.

Despite the fact that the BMI formula is recognized by the WHO itself, it is often criticized because it is not accurate. Firstly, Quetelet (a Belgian statistician and sociologist) developed it already in 1869. She is simply outdated. Secondly, it does not take into account the age and constitution of the structure of the human body, which means that it cannot be recognized as an ideal calculation.

WHO recognizes the imperfection of this approach, but is in no hurry to abandon it. They adjusted the normal BMI according to age and sex:

If the BMI turned out to be higher than the indicators given in the table, this indicates the presence of overweight.

tables

Those who are not friends with mathematics and do not like calculations can determine excess weight in other ways. Firstly, for this it is enough to find online calculators, enter your data in special boxes, click the "calculate" button and get a ready answer. Secondly, you can find tables of correspondence between body weight and parameters such as gender, height or age.

Height and weight table

Example. Our conditional little man with a height of 160 cm and a body weight of 74 kg falls into the category of those who need to get rid of extra pounds. If this is a woman, she will have to lose at least 18 kg (her optimal parameters are 50-56 kg). If a man, then by 14 kg (for him, the ideal corridor is indicated as 55-60 kg).

Table by height and age

Example. If our conditional male man is 20 years old, then he needs to lose weight by 11 kg; and if 60 - then only 6.

Table for calculating excess weight depending on the physique

According to their physique, people are divided into 3 types, and the parameters of ideal and excess weight can also depend on this. To determine who you are, the size of your wrist will help:

In asthenics:

 • the neck is long, thin;
 • shoulders are narrow;
 • the chest is flat, narrow;
 • limbs are long;
 • the face is elongated;
 • nose thin;
 • muscles are weak;
 • tendency to be overweight is minimal.

For normosthenics:

 • legs are slender;
 • the waist is thin;
 • the figure is harmonious;
 • growth is average.

For hypersthenics:

 • bones are heavy and wide;
 • the chest is voluminous and short;
 • broad shoulders;
 • limbs are shortened;
 • growth below average;
 • the tendency to be overweight is high.

After that, you can determine whether there is excess weight, according to the tables:

For men

For women

If you, with your body type, did not fit into the corridor of ideal body weight, then there is still a problem of excess weight. How important this is can be seen on the example of our conditional little man. If this is a hypersthenic woman, she will have to lose weight by at least 13 kg, if she is a normosthenic, then by 18, and if asthenic, then by all 23. Agree: the difference is significant.

Such tables are convenient because they do not require complex mathematical calculations, in which it is easy to make mistakes.

Brock's method

Paul Brock (French surgeon, anatomist, ethnographer, anthropologist) in the 19th century proposed a special formula by which to calculate excess weight. Today, in its popularity, it is only slightly inferior to the Quetelet method. It is based on the type of physique, which has already been mentioned above.

 • H - 100 (if H< 165 см);
 • H - 105 (if H = 166–175 cm);
 • H - 110 (if H > 175 cm).

After that, to calculate the excess weight, we use our body type:

 • asthenics reduce Broca's index by 10% and get their ideal body weight;
 • hypersthenics increase it by 10%;
 • normosthenics leave the result unchanged.

Calculation example. If our conditional little man:

 • asthenic: 160–100–10% = 54; then he will have to lose 20 kg;
 • hypersthenic: 160–100+10%=66; then he has an excess of 8 kg;
 • normosthenic: 160–100=60; then he needs to lose 14 kg.

Broca's method does not work for athletes, pregnant women and children.

other methods

Many scientists have tried to develop a method by which it would be possible to calculate the ideal weight and determine the number of extra pounds. Let's take only the most famous as an example.

Lorenz

A formula from the last century from the Danish physicist Hendrik Anton Lorenz. To calculate overweight, you must first determine the ideal.

Extended Lorenz formula: H (height in centimeters)–100–(H (in centimeters)–150):2.

Example: 160-100-(160-150):2=55.

Short: H (in centimeters): 2–25.

Example: 160:2–25=55.

Now, for our conditional little man, you can calculate how much excess weight is in him: 74–55 = 19 kg.

Borngart

 • V=75;
 • 160 x 75:240=50.

Conclusion: 20 extra pounds were found.

Mohammed

Example: 160 2 x 0.00225=57.6.

Conclusion: you need to lose 16.4 extra pounds.

Mohammed's technique was developed in 2010. Many scientists consider it not only the most innovative, but also one of the best.

Breitman

For example: 160 x 0.7–50=62.

Conclusion: in excess of 12 kg.

Monnerot-Dumine

For example:

 • V wrist=17 cm;
 • (160–100+(4 x 17)): 2=64.

Conclusion: you need to get rid of 10 kg.

Brok–Bruksht

 • in a woman: H (in centimeters) -100 - (H (in centimeters) -100): 10;
 • for a man: H (in centimeters) -100 - (H (in centimeters) -100): 20.

Calculation example:

Women: 160–100–(160–100):10=54.

Conclusion: lose weight by 20 kg.

For men: 160–100–(160–100): 20=57.

Conclusion: losing weight by 17 kg.

Kref

Odds:

 • 0.9 at V wrist< 15 см;
 • 1 at V wrist = 15-17 cm;
 • 1.1 with V wrist > 17 cm.

Calculation example:

 • V wrist=17 cm;
 • age=45 years;
 • (160–100+(45:10)) x 0.9 x 1=58.05.

Conclusion: losing weight by 15.95 kg.

Davenport

Calculation example:

 • we translate body weight into grams: M=74 kg=74,000 g;
 • 74 000:160 2 = 2.89 (there is excess weight if this indicator exceeds 3).

Conclusion: the parameters are close to the critical point.

Potton

Ideal weight formula for men: H (in centimeters) -100 - H (in centimeters): 200.

Example: 160-100-160:200=59.2.

Conclusion: you have to lose 14.8 kg.

Formula for women: H (in centimeters) -100 - H (in centimeters): 100.

Example: 160-100-160:100=58.4.

Conclusion: women will have to get rid of 15.6 kg.

Korovin

 • the thickness of the skin fold near the third rib;
 • thickness of the skin fold at the level of the umbilicus.
 • if the thickness of the skin fold near the third rib is more than 1.5 cm, this is a sign of overweight;
 • if the thickness of the skin fold at the level of the navel is more than 2 cm, this also indicates the presence of extra pounds.

Devin

In 1974, Dr. Devin developed a formula that was intended to correctly calculate the required dosage of drugs for a patient. But over time, it gained wide popularity and began to be used to determine the ideal body weight. By the way, most online calculators work on its basis.

Formula for men: 50 + 2.3 x (H (in inches) -60).

 • 50 + 2.3 x (62.99–60) = 57.

Conclusion: you need to lose weight by 17 kg.

Formula for women: 45.5 + 2.3 x (H (in inches) -60).

Calculation example:

 • convert height to inches: H=160 cm=62.99 inches;
 • 45.5 + 2.3 x (62.99–60) = 52.

Conclusion: you need to lose 22 kg.

Robinson

This is an improvement on Devin's formula, which many people say is more accurate.

Formula for men: 52 + 1.9 x (H (in inches) -60).

Calculation example: 52 + 1.9 x (62.99–60) = 58.

Conclusion: remove 16 extra pounds.

Formula for women: 49 + 1.7 x (H (in inches) -60).

Calculation example: 49 + 1.7 x (62.99–60) = 54.

Conclusion: gaining 20 extra pounds.

Taton

Formula: H (in centimeters)–(100+(H (in centimeters)–100):20).

Calculation example: 160–(100+(160–100):20)=57.

Conclusion: losing weight by 17 kg.

For reference: Jan Taton is a Polish researcher who has dealt with the problem of overweight throughout his life. Developed my own diet.

Noorden

Calculation example: 160 x 420: 1000 = 67.2.

Conclusion: the ballast is 6.8 kg.

cooper

Formula for men: 0.713 x H (in centimeters) -58.

Calculation example: 0.713 x 160–58 = 56.

Conclusion: in excess of 18 kg.

Formula for women: 0.624 x H (in centimeters) - 48.9.

Calculation example: 0.624 x 160–48.9 = 51.

Conclusion: 23 excess kilograms.

Gabbs

Calculation example: (160–150) x 4:5+55=63.

Otto

Formula for men: Broca's index - (Brock's index -52) x 1:5.

Calculation example: 60–(60–52) x 1:5=58.

Conclusion: you need to minus 16 kg.

For women: Broca's index - (Brock's index -52) x 2:5.

Calculation example: 60–(60–52) x 2:5=57.

Conclusion: minus 17 kg.

Dukan

If you need to calculate Dukan's excess weight, for (you can read it) it is extremely important, just find an online calculator on numerous sites dedicated to this weight loss method. It takes into account:

 • age;
 • body type;
 • growth;
 • muscle mass.

If we analyze the data obtained in the course of calculations using different formulas, the spread is quite large. This once again proves that the ideal technique has not yet been developed.

Bonus for Men: The John McCallum Method

John Dennis McCallum is a famous American sports columnist and writer of the mid-twentieth century. In his bestseller The Key to Success, he offers a separate formula by which young men (aged 18 to 35) can not only calculate their excess weight, but adjust body proportions. His technique is based on the circumference of the wrist:

 • wrist circumference x 6.5 = chest circumference (CG);
 • 85% OG = pelvic volume;
 • 70% OG = waist;
 • 53% OH = thighs;
 • 37% OG = neck;
 • 36% OG = biceps;
 • 34% OG = drumstick;
 • 29% OH = forearms.

McCallum's technique is also called the bodybuilder's formula. Men for whom it is important not only to lose weight and build muscle mass, but also to properly distribute it throughout the body so that it is embossed and beautiful, these calculations are a real find.

Now all these formulas are used only at home and are recommended for those whose overweight does not exceed 10 kg. In other cases, experts recommend contacting them with this problem. Since 2000, a new measurement method has been tested and used in clinics as an alternative to BMI. It was called the body volume index (BVI - Body Volume Index). It is more accurate as it is the result of a 3D scan.

All women dream of their ideal weight. Rivers of information in the form of all sorts of advertisements for drugs promising a slim and beautiful body, fashion magazines and shows that extol the slim models, create a common notion that beauty can only have a physical form. Long gone are the women of the era of Rubens with their luxurious magnificent forms. But in addition to physical attractiveness, a woman's health plays a huge role.

Women's weight and health

For women, excess fat in the abdomen carries a greater health risk than excess fat in the thighs. This can provoke high blood pressure, predisposition to diabetes and early development of coronary heart disease. There is a lot of controversy about what a woman's weight should be. But a clear argument is that a beautiful woman is, first of all, a healthy and happy woman. And her weight plays an important role in this.

Methods for calculating ideal weight

For a rather long period of time, Brock's formula was used to calculate the ideal body weight. This is an accessible way for everyone to calculate the ideal weight for a specific height and age. Everything is quite simple, it is enough to know the height, weight of a woman: subtract the number 100 from the height in centimeters and there will be an ideal weight. But such a formula is more suitable for calculating weight for women 40-50 years old. For 20-30 year old ladies, the ideal weight will be 10-12% less, and for ladies over 50 years old, the number increases by 5-7%.

Now various formulas and tables are used more, which also take into account the physique. To find out how much weight corresponds to the ideal weight in terms of medicine, you should calculate BMI using the formula: body weight in kg divided by height in meters squared B / (P * P). For example: height - 180 cm, weight - 75 kg.

It turns out: 75 / (1.8 * 1.8) = 23.1.

In addition, BMI is affected by gender, body type, and age. It turns out that over the years, the composition of the human body, as well as the mass of muscle and adipose tissue, changes. Therefore, new formulas have arisen that take into account the age-related features of the human physique. First, BMI is calculated using the formula: height in centimeters divided by weight in kilograms squared. Then, to calculate BMI by age, you should use an age adjustment.

How to calculate BMI by age and physique?

Considering the woman's age, the ideal BMI looks like this:

 • from 19 to 24 years old - 19.5;
 • from 25 to 34 - 23.2;
 • from 35 to 44 - 23.4;
 • from 45 to 54 - 25.2;
 • from 55 to 64 - 26;
 • over 65 - 27.3.

If we consider the norms of BMI, then everything is very individual. It should be borne in mind that the norm for women depends on her age. At 25 and at 50, the ideal weight for a woman can be very different. The BMI table may not be correct for adolescents, the elderly, pregnant and lactating women, and athletes. This index is used for men and women from 20 to 65 years old.

Normal weight should have a number in the range of 18.5 - 25. If the index is below normal, there is a risk of a lack of nutrients needed by the body. An index from 25 to 29 signals overweight, and more than 30 indicates obesity. The more BMI is above normal, the sooner you need to start losing weight. This will not only lighten the body, but also reduce the risk of coronary disease, diabetes and hypertension. But not only height and age affect the ideal weight for a woman, the table also takes into account the type of physique of a woman, since fragile and large women have very different ideal weights.

To correctly show the ideal weight for a woman, the table must have a slight correction. This is an amendment for young girls.

For women aged 18-25, to calculate weight, subtract 0.45 kg for each year up to age 25.

Choosing an individual weight loss plan

The path to ideal weight is simple: to be in good shape, you should not overeat and move more. The main rule is no extremes and starvation. The number of calories burned daily depends on the level of physical activity. Therefore, depending on the daily calorie intake and physical activity, each woman has her own in order to get the ideal weight. For a woman, the table below will be useful to calculate nutrition, taking into account the level of physical activity.

It follows from the table that a woman leading a moderately active lifestyle can consume about 1500 kcal per day without changing her weight. However, if you plan to lose weight, you will have to limit yourself. Practice shows that when the calorie content of the daily menu is reduced to 1200 kcal, weight is reduced gently, quickly, efficiently and without harm to health.

How to lose weight?

Having chosen your personal weight loss plan, you need to plan your diet daily, combining various types of foods in it: carbohydrates, proteins, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, fats - so as not to exceed the allowable number of daily calories. should be carried out gradually, changing the menu and increasing physical activity.

The most acceptable rate of weight loss is no more than 500-800 g per week. If body weight is reduced at a faster pace, there will be a risk of burning not only excess fat, but also muscle tissue. And muscles provide not only physical strength, but also metabolic rate. The more developed the muscles, the easier it is to keep the weight normal. To lose half a kilo of fat in a week, you need to give 3500 kcal more during this time than is accepted with food. You can eat less food, but by cutting down on the diet, it is difficult to preserve the necessary nutrients in it. It is much easier and more useful, gradually reducing the calorie content of food, to increase the physical activity of the body.

How does a woman's weight change?

Nutrition, as well as the norm of weight for women, can change throughout life. During pregnancy, a woman becomes heavier, especially in the last trimester. On average, during the period of bearing a child, she adds from 11 to 16 kg. In the first trimester, the energy needs of her body increase slightly, and then it is necessary for the body to receive an additional 300 kcal per day, including the necessary vitamins and minerals. Pregnancy and childbirth, as well as caring for a baby, require a huge expenditure of energy. Therefore, a young mother needs more nutrients, and therefore calories.

But all young mothers strive to regain their prenatal harmony and elegance as soon as possible. Nevertheless, it is better to wait with a diet, because breastfeeding and pregnancy deplete the reserves of vitamins and minerals, so a young mother should receive good nutrition, both for herself and for her child. When breastfeeding, it is recommended to increase the daily caloric intake by about 500 kcal, at least for a while, until the amount of milk is stabilized, and only then very gradually reduce the amount of calories consumed in order to lose weight.

7 rules for weight loss

Each woman chooses her most suitable way to lose weight, but there are basic rules for proper weight loss that cannot be neglected. Drink a glass of water before every meal. It helps to fill the stomach and avoid overeating. It is important to have breakfast. Otherwise, too much will be eaten at lunch. If you have no appetite early in the morning, you can take a light breakfast with you to work. Chewing food should be as long as possible: the slower the food is absorbed, the faster the feeling of hunger disappears. Don't eat on the go. Be sure to first sit down at the table, and then start eating.

You should go to the store only on a full stomach, buy products strictly according to the planned list, not allowing yourself extra sweets. Limit the intake of fatty foods, because fat has 2 times higher calorie content than proteins and carbohydrates. Other foods should be taken in moderation. Vegetables can be eaten without restrictions. If you want supplements, you should not take it right away, but wait 5-10 minutes, for sure the body will receive a signal of saturation and you can refrain from supplementing.

Ideal weight and psychological dependence

Every woman should approach the process of losing weight wisely, because many, having a normal body mass index, are unhappy with their appearance and strive to lose weight as much and as quickly as possible. You need to take into account all weight, age. It should be remembered that rapid weight loss leads to a weakening of the regenerative forces of the body, causing various pathological processes in it. And the problem of dissatisfaction with one's weight, first of all, is in the head and psychological attitude towards oneself beloved.

It is known that in the USSR, a healthy weight for a woman was calculated using the simplest formula, growth minus one hundred. According to her, Baba Klava from the bench at the entrance was declared a woman with an ideal figure. Later, nutritionists slightly changed the formula - "growth minus one hundred and ten", and for ballerinas the formula "growth minus one hundred and twenty" has always worked. If such generalized data does not suit you, read on - we have collected the most interesting, relevant and reflective formulas.

Ideal Weight Calculator

Classification of body types according to Solovyov:

 1. Asthenic type: less than 18 cm in men, less than 15 cm in women.
 2. Normosthenic type: 18-20 cm in men, 15-17 in women.
 3. Hypersthenic type: more than 20 cm in men, more than 17 cm in women.

Cooper formula

Ideal weight for a woman (kg): (height (cm) x 3.5: 2.54 - 108) x 0.453.
Ideal weight for a man (kg): (height (cm) x 4.0: 2.54 - 128) x 0.453.

Lorentz formula

Ideal weight = (height (cm) - 100) - (height (cm) - 150) / 2

For our heroine, the ideal weight will be 25 kg. State?

Kyutla Formula (Body Mass Index)

The Body Mass Index is designed to measure overweight and obesity. BMI is familiar to many.

BMI = weight (kg) : (height (m))2

BMI below 19 - underweight.

 • At the age of 19-24 - BMI should be in the range from 19 to 24;
 • at the age of 25-34 - BMI should be from 19 to 25;
 • at the age of 35-44 - BMI should be from 19 to 26;
 • at the age of 45-54 - BMI should be from 19 to 27;
 • at the age of 55-64 - BMI should be from 19 to 28;
 • over the age of 65 - BMI should be from 19 to 29.

Calculation example:

weight - 50 kg.

height - 1.59 m

BMI = 50 / (1.59 * 1.59) = 19.77 (normal BMI)

Fixed weight-height coefficient

The calculation is based on a fixed coefficient (weight in grams divided by height in centimeters). The table below is for women aged 15 to 50.

Ideal weight formula: (height in cm*coefficient)/1000

Brock's formula

It was this formula, proposed by the French physician Brock more than a hundred years ago, that was used in vulgar calculations. Brock's formula takes into account the physique: asthenic (thin), normosthenic (normal) and hypersthenic (stocky).

Ideal weight formula:

 • up to 40 years: height -110
 • after 40 years: growth - 100

Asthenics subtract 10%, and hypersthenics add 10%.

So our calculations are:

age - 24 years

height - 159 cm

physique - hypersthenic.

Ideal weight = 53.9 kg.

Brock-Brugsch formula

This is Brock's modified formula for people with non-standard height: less than 155 cm and more than 170 cm.

 • Less than 165 cm: ideal weight = height - 100
 • 165-175 cm: ideal weight = height - 105
 • Over 175 cm: ideal weight = height - 110.
