Orthodox akathist and troparion to the Most Holy Theotokos, the exaction of the dead

Icon of the Mother of God"RECOVERY OF THE DEAD"

Description icons of the Mother of God"RECOVERY OF THE DEAD":

According to legend, the icon of the Mother of God “SEARCH FOR THE DEAD” became famous as early as the 6th century in the Asia Minor city of Adana, delivering the repentant monk Theophilus from eternal death, who later reached the highest spiritual perfection and was glorified by the Church as a saint.

In Russia, the earliest of the images Holy Mother of God, called "The Seeking of the Dead", is considered an image that was once in the St. George's Church in the city of Bolkhov, Oryol province, written, according to legend, in 1707. The icon became famous later, in the middle of the 18th century, through the miraculous deliverance from the death of the pious peasant Feodot Alekseevich Obukhov from the village of Vyazovka in the Kaluga province (almost on the border with the Moscow province).

This peasant was engaged in various crafts, most of the time he lived in Bolkhov, Oryol province, often traveled around the villages, buying hemp and hemp seed. But he did not forget the village church in the village of Bor, of which he was a parishioner (there was no church in Fedot's native village - Vyazovka). As far as his means allowed him, he decorated his poor rural church by donating various icons to it.

Once on the way, during a severe frost, he was overtaken by a terrible blizzard. The night has come. The horse was exhausted and stopped at the edge of an impassable ravine. The frost became more and more fierce, the blizzard did not let up. Obukhov was chilled by the cold and, seeing no means of salvation, wrapped himself up, lay down in the sleigh and began to fall asleep, realizing that he was completely freezing. In these terrible moments, he constantly appealed to the Queen of Heaven for help and promised to make a list from the icon of the Mother of God "Seeking the Lost", located in the St. George's Church of Bolkhov, and put it in his parish church. And the Most Holy Theotokos heard his heartfelt prayer and sought out the perishing one.

In a neighboring village, a peasant suddenly heard someone’s voice under the window: “Take it,” and, leaving the house, he saw a tied horse, and his friend Theodot Obukhov, half-frozen, in a sleigh. He was brought into the house, wiped off, heated and brought back to life. Upon recovery, Obukhov immediately set about fulfilling his vow, ordering a list from the Seeking for the Lost icon for his parish church.

Soon, thanks to generous donations from fans Icon of the Mother of God "SEARCH FOR THE DEAD", on the site of a poor rural temple, a beautiful stone church was built. And the Borsk Icon of the Mother of God "Searching for the Lost" became famous for many blessed signs and miracles. So in 1871, a cholera epidemic raged in the neighboring city of Serpukhov, which stopped after a miraculous icon was brought to the city. Since then, the icon of the Mother of God was annually brought from the village of Bor to Serpukhov in a solemn procession. This custom was preserved until the God-fighting authorities destroyed the Bor temple to the ground. The holy icon of the Mother of God then disappeared without a trace.

Until now, several ancient lists of the icon of the Mother of God "Searching for the Lost" have been preserved. The most famous of them are in Moscow - in the Church of the Resurrection of the Word on the Assumption Vrazhek, in St. Petersburg - in the Intercession Church in Marienburg, in Samara - in the Intercession Cathedral.

Before the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos "Search for the Lost" they pray for the blessing of marriage; they come to her with a prayer for liberation from vices, Mothers flow with intercession for perishing children, for the health and well-being of children, for the healing of eye diseases and blindness, for toothache, for fever, for the ailment of drunkenness, for headaches, for admonishing those who have fallen of the Orthodox faith and the return of the erring to the Church.

Oh, All-Merciful Lady! Give me a helping hand and ask your Son and God with your Maternal and most holy prayers for forgiveness of my grave sin.

I believe and confess that it is He Who gave birth to Thou, Your Son is truly
Christ, the Son of the living God. For this reason, I beg Your innumerable goodness: open the doors of Your mercy to me who have erred and fallen into the darkness of the depths, do not disdain the filthy me, do not despise my sinful prayer, do not leave me accursed, as if the evil enemy is looking for me to perish, but beg for me born of Thee, Thy merciful Son and God, may my great sins be forgiven and deliver me from my harm, as if I, with all those who have received forgiveness, I will sing and glorify the immeasurable mercy of God and Your shameless intercession for me in this life and in an endless age . The power and glory of the Godhead was wisely hidden by the incarnate Word of the Father: The Son of God, called the Son of Man, descended to earth, like a good Shepherd, laying down His life for the sheep; in the wilds of sin, looking for those who have gone astray, calling everyone by name and washing away filth in the source of repentance. Having enjoyed the pleasant pasture, like the sheep of words, let us thankfully cry out to Him: A llilui.

Have care for the salvation of sinners, every day, light a lamp of God's mercy, seek diligently, Lady, like a gospel wife, a lost drachma, that is, a soul that has lost the image of God and darkened by passions. Ikos 4

The sinners do not listen to the voice of the good Shepherd, who have fallen into the depths of evil, despised the fear of God and the sweetness of the sin of seduction. Who will save these, who are walking along the path to death, if not You, Mother of Mercy? Looking graciously at sinful Mary, who cried out to You, Mother of God: “Now wake me to salvation, Instructor,” direct me to the desert of Jordan.
