How often to breastfeed. How to feed a newborn with breast milk? Feeding after caesarean section

To decide how many times to feed a newborn, watching his behavior will help. A child in the first month of life should be fed on demand, according to the schedule that he has set for himself. On the first day, the baby asks for a breast every half an hour. Short intervals indicate that the feeding process has not been adjusted. Frequent attachment to the breast improves lactation. In the first 3 days, the baby feeds on colostrum, which is a harbinger of breast milk. This is a valuable food that populates the intestines with beneficial microflora. At that time better than a child apply to the chest as often as possible. You should not be afraid that he will overeat. The newborn will take as much milk as he needs. The question of how much to apply per day to the breast of a newborn in the first week of life should not worry the mother. Let's breastfeed every time the baby cries. Newly born babies can eat up to 12 times without a break for a night's sleep. Usually a child of the first month of life can withstand without feeding for about 2 hours. If the intervals between feedings are extended to 3 hours or more, then gently wake the baby, apply to the chest. In the second month, the interval between feedings increases to 3 hours. The child requires breast up to 8 times a day. By six months, children switch to five meals a day. A hungry newborn will be: restless; move your mouth from side to side; look for breasts suck fists; try to suck on objects that are nearby. The frequency of feeding a newborn depends on his activity, the duration of sucking. If the baby lazily sucks the breast, falls asleep without being satiated, then he will quickly wake up from hunger, the interval between feedings will decrease. No need to calculate how long to feed breast milk. The baby himself will show that it's time to eat.

Undoubtedly, breastfeeding is the gold standard of nutrition for children. But what to do when a mother cannot breastfeed? Let's say she is sick, she has no or little milk, or there are other reasons. Artificial feeding with milk mixtures is called for help. In order for it to be beneficial, it is important to know all the nuances - how often to feed a newborn with a mixture, how much formula can be given, which one is better to choose, etc.

What is artificial feeding

This is a replacement (full or partial - 2/3 of the diet) of mother's milk with artificial dairy products.

BTW: Ideal for twins, triplets, etc.

Selection rules

It must be done in favor of a quality product. This is not only about the date of manufacture, the duration of storage after opening the package. First of all, these should be the correct recommendations of the pediatrician, based on:

  • food composition,
  • baby age,
  • his weight
  • body features,
  • reactions to food.
  • his weight
  • body features,
  • reactions to food.

Reasons for replacement

Is there diarrhea or constipation, drowsiness, increased gas formation? Perhaps the dairy product is not suitable. Feeding takes place in the mode of tears and spitting? Something went wrong, didn’t like the taste or something else. So, you need to consult a doctor for advice and advice. Because there are more serious reasons forcing a pediatric specialist to replace one formula for artificial feeding to another:

  1. Allergy to the composition (severe rashes).
  2. Requires another, suitable for age.
  3. Due to illness (requires a special composition with medicinal properties).
  4. Stopping weight gain.

BTW: You can not use several different mixtures, give food intended for a different age, or feed a child against his will.

How often can artificial mixtures be changed

No, it is not recommended to do this often and, moreover, arbitrarily without talking with the pediatrician. It is difficult for a child's body to rebuild quickly or, worse, to do it all the time. Try to closely observe the assimilation of the new food by the child:

  1. The rash may go away the next day.
  2. The unfavorable stool improved by evening.
  3. The tummy does not hurt the next morning.
  4. No spitting up or anything like that.

ATTENTION: If something is wrong, pay a visit to the children's clinic. Ask what types of dairy products are ideal.

Mixtures for artificial feeding - types and varieties

Manufacturers manufacture products for artificial feeding of newborns, which are based on milk (goat or cow). She happens:

  • dry, liquid,
  • unleavened and fermented milk substitutes for women's milk,
  • ordinary (the composition is a bit like mother's milk) and adapted (as similar as possible).

Varieties of mixtures for artificial feeding of newborns

ATTENTION: Medicinal and special mixtures are prescribed by a doctor according to indications!

How often to feed a newborn formula - feeding schedule

Is it possible to feed the baby at will and demand? No, it's better not to.

Firstly, this is not mother's milk, which comes in proportion to what he sucked in the previous feeding.

Secondly, the baby's body needs time to digest artificial food. Otherwise, if the break is not observed, nothing good will come from adding fresh food to undigested food.

When the baby is artificial feeding, he must consume the prescribed amount of food, and strictly by the hour.

How to enter the mixture correctly - cooking rules

If this is the first introduction to the diet of dairy products (or new), then carry out the process for 5-7 days. Initially, a small volume is offered (no more than one third of the prescribed portion). If everything went well, the amount of food increases during the week.

Rules for the preparation of milk formula and feeding

The first thing to do is to carefully read the instructions for preparing a dairy product and stick to it. A larger or smaller amount of the contents of a pack or jar is fraught with belching, regurgitation, unstable stools and other consequences that are dangerous for the liver, kidneys, pancreas and other organs. When preparing a mass that a tiny artificial man must certainly like, keep in mind:

It is prepared exclusively before feeding and in no case - not for the future.

Water (boiled) and the product are quickly mixed in the right proportion until completely dissolved. Then shakes.

It is necessary to cook only in well-sterilized dishes.

For breeding, specialized water without harmful substances is used.

The feeding nipple must be suitable for the baby.

REMEMBER: The temperature of the cooked food should be 36-37° (by dropping a drop on your wrist, check - the liquid should not be felt).

How to calculate the required amount of formula for feeding

The norm is calculated based on the age of the crumbs, weight and appetite. In principle, the so-called. "bulk method". For example, per day the main food should be:

Example. The weight of an infant aged 3.5 months is 5700. Give him 950 ml adapted mixture per day. But the approximate amount of food, as well as how many hours to feed, is specified in each case separately with the doctor, and not “by eye”.

REMEMBER: Your little "artificial" can eat different amounts of food at a time. The determining factor may be well-being, appetite and other factors.

How much food is needed in one feeding?

To do this, the daily volume is divided by the number of receptions. Those. from the formula 950:6 = 158 we see that at a time through the required period of time (with six feedings) the little one should be given about 160 g.

BTW: The volume of the artificial product does not include juice, water, decoctions of fruits and vegetables. If the menu includes complementary foods (vegetable puree, yolk, cottage cheese), the fact should be taken into account when determining the required volume of the mixture.

How to properly formula feed your baby

How many times to feed - feeding schedule

How to find out after what time, how many times to feed the "artificial"? Their feeding schedule is usually traditional. So, in the first month of life, it is necessary to give food 6-7 times, i.e. a break is maintained somewhere in 3-3.5 hours. (At night, the interval can be about 6 hours). After the interval increases.

ATTENTION: If you notice that the "artificial" baby is not enough, he does not eat up, consult a doctor about increasing the number of feedings.

In a word, everything is determined, and then, if necessary, the doctor will correct it. For example, the baby will not cope with the recommended volume at a time. So, feed more often, but in smaller portions.

One way or another, it is advisable to closely monitor the behavior of the little one. He should not be lethargic and inactive. Should be gaining weight well. Otherwise, at the reception, at the clinic!

BTW: Include water in your formula-fed diet! But do not take it into account when calculating the total volume daily allowance children's meal.

Advantages of artificial feeding

So, is there no breast milk, or are there other good reasons for not breastfeeding? Do not rush to get upset! Yes, the artificial nutrition recommended to you does not contain such unique elements of human milk. But still, this feeding system has its advantages.

  1. The most adapted: with the greatest degree of similarity with mother's milk.
  2. Highly adapted: due to the presence of tauric acid, nutrition is ideal for premature babies.
  3. With less adaptation: from cow's milk powder, without whey, but with the observance of other adaptation parameters.
  4. With partial adaptation: without whey, with incomplete adaptation of carbohydrates and fats, starch and sucrose; unacceptable for newborns.
  5. Special: for special cases when special nutrition is required (babies with a weakened immune system, premature babies).
  6. Therapeutic (lactose-free, soy, semi-elementary, with thickeners - for allergies, malabsorption of food in the intestines, low weight, disorders of the intestinal flora, etc.).
    • in the first two months of life - 1/5 of body weight,
    • in 2-4 months - 1/6,
    • at 4-6 months - 1/7,
    • after six months - 1/8-1/9.
    1. Before feeding with a powder or liquid product mixed with baby water, the temperature of the resulting mass is checked (should not be higher than 36.6-37 degrees).
    2. It is important to observe that the baby does not swallow air while sucking.
    3. Unused mixture should not be given again.
    4. The child should be in a semi-vertical position.
    5. After eating, the dishes and the nipple must be sterilized with high quality.
    1. When preparing food, take the mixture with a clean measuring spoon.
    2. In the first days, prepare the desired volume by adding 10-20 ml. When the “artificial” baby’s diet improves, it will be easier to select the amount.
    3. Yes, milk during artificial feeding is longer in the stomach, and therefore the regimen is established. But if the baby becomes very worried about 15-20 minutes before feeding, do not torment - feed.
    4. The nipple should be with a normal, not a large hole - the milk does not flow in streams, but drips.
    5. Hold

Young mothers are often worried - how to properly feed a child? How often should I breastfeed or formula? Is there a concept at all - "too often" regarding the nutrition of a newborn?

How often should you breastfeed your baby?

The first time you need to attach the baby is still in the delivery room. If you are at the stage of choosing a maternity hospital, pay attention to what rules regarding early attachment to the breast are followed there.

The ideal option is when you can breastfeed your baby immediately after birth, and then lie in the ward together to feed in a way that suits you.

How often does a newborn eat?

The first days and weeks of the baby, who is on breastfeeding, eats very often. First, a small stomach can hold very little food. And secondly, the child needs to eat a lot in order to quickly gain strength and grow up.

In any case, breast milk is digested faster in the stomach, so the baby is very often hungry. The most reasonable option is to take a closer look at the child and independently understand how often to feed the newborn.

Average feeding frequency

According to statistics, at first, newborns require a breast every 1.5-2 hours during the day. Night breaks between meals are lengthened, but not much - up to 3-4 hours between feedings.

This mode is optimal for the mother to improve milk production, and the child is used to confidently taking soft breasts. A little later, when more milk comes, he will already be able to cope well with more filled breasts.

How do you know when it's time to feed?

The first signs that the baby is hungry are as follows:

  1. The child's sleep becomes restless, the eyelids tremble - which means that the baby will wake up soon.
  2. The baby starts to squeak and smack his lips. The reflex turns on, as if hinting to mom that, in general, it's time.
  3. The baby may then begin to turn its head little by little in search of a source of milk.

It is more correct to give the baby a breast at this very moment. Appetite has come, but the child has not yet begun to get nervous. If the mother waits until the baby cries, it is likely that he may take the breast incorrectly, and this is already the cause of screaming, worries and a growing coma of problems.

On demand or on demand?

Benefits of On Demand Feeding

The most natural is the method of feeding newborns "on demand", that is, when the baby wants. It is under such conditions the best way the mother's milk production is improved and the baby is properly nourished.

This method of feeding is recommended by the World Health Organization. During breastfeeding, a woman's body produces the hormone oxytocin, which promotes milk production. Thus, it turns out that milk is produced exactly as much as the baby needs.

Features of feeding "according to the regime"

At the same time, feeding "according to the regimen" also has its fans. He does not have many advantages, but for some mothers they are very significant:

  • with this type of feeding, a constant daily routine is established. This is very convenient for parents, as they can somehow plan life with a newborn;
  • during the daytime, breastfeeding is supposed to be done at intervals of 3 hours. At night, the intervals are longer - 6 hours;
  • with feeding "according to the regimen", the mother gets the opportunity to sleep peacefully at night.

However, this method can lead to the extinction of lactation. In addition, the child does not always fill up in the 20 minutes allocated for feeding and may get hungry faster than the scheduled time. In this case, tears and worries are inevitable.

Feeding a bottle-fed baby

The situation can develop in different ways, and it happens that you have to transfer the baby to artificial breast milk substitutes. However, doctors are quite categorical and insist that at least in the very early age the baby was breastfed.

Indications for the transfer of crumbs to artificial feeding

The indications for switching to mixtures are quite strict:

  • infectious diseases in the mother or the need to take strong medications.
  • very difficult childbirth, after which a woman needs a long recovery.
  • mother's absence.
  • insufficient milk production or its absence. It is determined by control weighings and examinations of the child.

Artificial feeding has completely different principles and approaches. The mixture, of course, they try to make it look like breast milk, but it is completely different in its composition.

What feeding regimen to choose?

You can feed a newborn with a mixture only on a schedule. Milk replacer is digested in the baby's tummy longer and therefore the child may well withstand a certain interval between feedings.

How to calculate the correct amount of formula for a newborn?

The calculation of the required amount of the mixture is carried out according to a special formula:

  • the age of the newborn (in days) must be multiplied by 80 (or by 70 if the birth weight is below normal),
  • then divide this number by the number of feedings per day, and you will get the norm of the mixture for one feeding.

Please note that this formula is only suitable for newborns!

On average, the norm of a mixture of a child in the first month of life is about 30-50 ml at a time.

How often should I formula feed my baby?

  1. The newborn should receive formula at intervals of 3 hours. Such a regular intake gives the baby time to fully digest his food and improve bowel function.
  2. The night interval is assumed to be quite large - from 6 hours.

Very often, bottle-fed babies sleep quite soundly at night due to the satiety of the food. If the baby wakes up earlier, it is better to try to offer him water.

An excessive amount of the mixture will not only add to the child excess weight that at this age, in principle, is not very scary, but it can also overload the delicate stomach and cause problems with digestion.

Does a newborn need water?

This question causes a lot of controversy. Pediatricians believe that it is necessary to supplement a breastfed child according to the circumstances. If it is hot and stuffy outside or indoors, if the mother’s milk is very fatty, it will be better if you offer the baby ordinary drinking water.

If the child is on artificial feeding, it is necessary to supplement it with water. The fact is that mother's milk changes its fat content and nutritional value in one feeding, but the mixture is still food. Therefore, always offer your artificial baby some drinking baby water.

Not so long ago, all mothers were advised to feed a newborn at a strictly allotted time, ignoring the hungry cries of the child. They advised to “aunt” the baby, give him some water and distract him from thinking about food. Fortunately, in recent years, the prevailing common sense, and each mother, together with the child, decide how often to feed the newborn.

How many times a day should a newborn be fed?

The answer to the question of how many times a day to feed a newborn is the behavior of the infant itself. Usually, healthy child, correctly gaining weight, is applied to the chest every 3-4 hours. How much to feed a newborn if he is naughty and anxious? For baby mother's milk is a symbol of reliability, peace, comfort and tenderness. Therefore, do not make him suffer and give your love on demand.

The child will never eat more than he needs. So don't be afraid to overfeed it. Digestive system The newborn is tuned to a constant supply of nutrients. Because of this, the need for feeding may arise even a quarter of an hour after the previous one.

And yet, all women tend to reckon with the authoritative opinion of scientists, so they are sure to ask themselves how many times a day it is recommended to feed a newborn. During the first weeks of a child's life, it should be applied to the breast 8 to 12 times a day. The frequency of feeding also depends on the duration of feeding. Often the baby falls asleep without having time to get enough, and wakes up an hour later from a feeling of hunger. So it is impossible to say exactly how long you need to feed your newborn.

An example of how often a newborn should be fed is the behavior of animals. Going hunting, they are forced to leave their babies for a long time. As a result, their milk contains a large number of fats and makes up for the rare number of feedings. Breast milk is low in calories and non-fat. Therefore, you need to feed your baby much more often.

How many times a day should a newborn be fed formula milk

Another problem is how many hours you need to feed a newborn if the child is bottle-fed. When feeding with milk formulas, pediatricians still insist on observing the daily regimen and recommend feeding no more than once every three hours. This mode allows you to establish the regularity of the baby's daily stool.

Every mother wants to see her child healthy and from the first days of his life begins to give him everything he needs. This is breast milk, which has useful substances and trace elements necessary for the growth and strengthening of the child's body.

However, in addition to the feeding process itself, other factors are important - proper care at the breast, ease of position, pumping, the need for supplementary feeding, etc.

Find out all the nuances from our article: how to properly feed a newborn baby, the rules for breast milk and formula feeding, nutritional features with mixed feeding, how often and after what period of time to feed the baby (schedule and rate of food intake for the baby).

natural feeding

In the first year breast milk is a vital food for the baby. In order for this period to bring only joy to the baby and mother, you should know about the basic rules of feeding.

What determines the amount of milk a mother has

The amount of milk can be affected by:

  • transferred stresses;
  • insufficient sleep;
  • mother's dietary habits;
  • insufficient physical activity;
  • fatigue;
  • hereditary predisposition;
  • lack of rest.
  • Breast size does not affect the amount of milk. Neither the shape of the nipple nor the type of milk matters.

    Breastfeeding rules and breast care

    When feeding, there is only one rule - feeding should be carried out in a separate room where there is no one but mother and baby.

    It does not matter what position will be taken during feeding - sitting, lying, standing; the main thing is complete relaxation and comfort.

    Separately, you need to talk about pumping and breast massage. These procedures should be carried out in the first 3-4 weeks after childbirth. Then the flow of milk is normalized.

    Before expressing and massaging, hands and breasts should be washed with soap and water. Alcohol-based products should not be used.

    Ordinary baby soap is an excellent antiseptic. It is also necessary to ensure that the detergent does not remain on the chest after washing procedures.

    It is not recommended to use soap before each feeding. The tool is able to remove the fatty film that protects the mammary glands from external influences.

    Therefore, it is necessary to wash the breast only once a day. If necessary, warm running water is sufficient.

    The massage itself is not difficult. However, make sure that the glands are of the same density. When seals are detected, massage is carried out in this area more intensively.

    The chest is supported by one hand from below. The second with the help of 4 fingers you need to massage the mammary gland in a circular motion starting at the ribs and moving towards the nipple. The hand that supports the chest from below should not be inactive - the technique is similar.

    At the site of compaction, movements do not increase, only the duration of the massage increases.

    Pumping is an important step for a nursing mother. If left unattended, an excess amount of milk will lead to the development of mastitis.

    So, pumping should involve only two fingers- index and large. It is important to press not on the nipple, but on the tissue of the gland. by the most effective method pumping - using a breast pump.

    Many of the difficulties associated with natural feeding are the appearance of cracks and abrasions on the nipples. These phenomena occur due to:

    • child's activity;
    • characteristics of the mother's skin;
    • inadequate hygiene.

    Preventive measures must be followed. This includes:

    • the nipple after feeding should always be dry (for this, it is blotted with sterile gauze);
    • cleanliness of the chest;
    • a nursing mother should not wear underwear containing synthetics - only cotton;
    • the child should capture the areola (halo), and not the nipple;
    • if a crack is found, treatment is started immediately;
    • mother's nails should be short (so as not to be scratched during pumping);
    • do not keep the baby near the chest for more than 20 minutes;
    • you can not bring the baby to such a degree of hunger that he pounces on the chest;
    • perform massage and pumping;
    • Keep your chest open as much as possible.

    For the treatment of abrasions and cracks, vitamin A is used on an oily basis (sold in pharmacies), Bepanten, sea buckthorn oil, special aerosols (without antibiotics).

    In case of suppuration, you should immediately consult a doctor.

    Catering by the hour or on demand

    After how many hours should a newborn baby be breastfed?

    Two options are being considered breastfeeding – feeding by the hour and on demand. Both options are equally relevant and acceptable.

    Feeding by the hour is carried out strictly at a certain time every 3 hours. At night there is a break - 6 hours.

    This mode lasts up to 2 months. Then the interval between feedings increases to 3.5 hours, and at night - up to 7 hours.

    The advantage of the method is teaching the child to discipline from early childhood. Otherwise, this method is a radical choice on the part of the mother, since not all children agree with the regimen.

    Feeding on demand is the most popular choice among modern parents.

    After birth, the child experiences severe stress, and the only effective method get rid of him - bodily contact with mom. Therefore, it is so important to put the baby to the breast when he wants it. After all, sucking is not only the process of getting food, but also an effective method of calming the baby.

    This method is a highly effective means of maintaining lactation.

    but frequent feeding will not allow mom to do household chores, therefore, putting the baby to the breast should not be at the first sign of anxiety, smacking lips, grunting, sniffing, but when the baby really needs food - 1 time in 2 hours with a 20-minute duration of feeding.

    A few words about the breastfeeding regimen and how to properly feed a newborn baby with breast milk, Dr. Komarovsky will tell:

    Which option to choose

    Basic rule - healthy child knows when he needs food. You should not wake him up just because, according to his mother, it is time for him to eat. Exceptions are such cases:

    • if the mother needs to leave urgently;
    • children who are underweight.

    The optimal interval between feedings in children under 1 month is 2-3 hours. Further, the baby himself will gradually increase it as he grows and develops.

    An important condition is attachment to only one breast during one feeding. This rule is irrelevant if the baby has not eaten enough or the mother has cracks on the nipples.

    Make sure that the baby performs swallowing movements during attachment, and not sucking. If his desire to “hang” on his mother’s chest is not stopped in time, then in the future it will be quite difficult to wean him from his favorite thing.

    Bottle feeding baby

    Bottle feeding a baby is different from breastfeeding. In the latter case, he himself determines the volume of milk and the duration of the meal. Due to this, milk production adapts to the needs of the baby and changes as it grows.

    Breastfeeding a baby if the mother is not around can be done in different ways. This situation is justified due to the inability of the mother to put the baby to the breast (severe pain, urgent departure, etc.).

    Then allowed to feed from a bottle with a pacifier. Today, this method is in demand for artificial and mixed feeding or in case the mother is not around.

    The advantage of the pacifier is the safest and most natural way to absorb food.

    However, there are significant differences between bottle sucking and breastfeeding. In the first case, the baby makes less effort. Therefore, after meeting with the bottle, many babies refuse their mother's breasts.

    The alternative is the choice of a special nipple.

    • When the bottle is tilted, no milk drops should come out of the nipple.
    • When pressing on a wide area of the nipple, a trickle should go.

    Remember to take care of your bottle. It is necessary to regularly rinse and rinse children's containers with boiling water.

    Expressed breast milk can be frozen. This will save all the vitamins and useful trace elements, and the newborn will not remain hungry if the mother has left on business. Mixing milk after several pumpings is not recommended. The frozen liquid is stored no more than 2 months.

    What to do if there is no lactation

    What to feed a newborn baby if there is no milk? Often in medical practice there are cases when the mother does not have enough milk for complete nutrition of the baby. Additional measures agreed with the doctor can correct the situation.

    • Mom should drink at least 2 liters of water per day.
    • Apply crumbs in the first days of his life should be as often as possible.
    • Do not replace mother's milk with other fluids.
    • Night application is the main condition for good lactation.
    • Proper nutrition for the mother is also important.

    10-15 minutes before feeding, the mother needs to drink a glass of warm sweet tea with milk or dried fruit compote.

    No stress and worries: with emotional disorders in women, lactation worsens.

    Why not grapes while breastfeeding? You will find answers to questions about the nutrition of nursing mothers.

    Introduction of formula into the infant's diet

    If, despite all the efforts of the mother, there is still enough milk, then, willy-nilly, you will have to use additional nutrition - switch to mixed feeding. In the case of a complete transfer to milk formulas, we can talk about artificial nutrition.

    What to give

    The baby should receive food that is as close as possible in composition to breast milk. These products are mixtures.

    All mixtures are divided into 3 groups:

    • partially adapted (children after a year);
    • less adapted (after 6 months);
    • maximally adapted (up to 6 months).

    The best will be the mixture, on the packaging of which it is indicated: "Designed for feeding children from birth to 1 year."

    Don't change often children food, since the baby may develop unpleasant reactions in the form of diarrhea, frequent regurgitation, allergic rashes, etc.

    It is necessary to switch to another mixture in case of:

    • if the baby is not gaining weight;
    • if he has frequent constipation.

    It is unacceptable to give diluted cow's milk as a supplement (full feeding). This can lead to irreversible consequences.

    The product does not contain those useful minerals and vitamins that are contained in the adapted formula or mother's milk.

    Mixed feeding rules

    • Breastfeed first, then formula.
    • Only one feeding can be replaced with a mixture.

    You need to introduce the product gradually, starting with a small amount. The temperature of the mixture should not exceed the temperature of the child's body. It is necessary to dilute the product only with boiled water.

    Here's another one interesting video with the participation of Evgeny Komarovsky, from which you will learn about the feeding regimen of a newborn, whether it is necessary to feed him at night and how many times this can be done:

    Feeding hours and dosage

    How to properly feed a newborn baby with a mixture and do I need to do it on time?

    With artificial feeding in the first months of life, 6-7 meals a day are recommended with an interval of 3-3.5 hours.

    At night, a 6-hour interval should be done. It is important to take into account the required volume, which is calculated depending on age and weight.

    So, for the first six months of life, an infant needs 115 kcal per 1 kg, after 6 months - 110 kcal.

    The daily amount of food needed by a baby with normal weight indicators is:

    • from 7 days to 2 months - 1/5 of body weight;
    • from 2 to 4 - 1/6 of body weight;
    • from 6 to 12 months - 1/8.

    Introduce a new mixture according to the following schedule:

    • 1 day - 10 ml 1 time per day;
    • 2 day - 10 ml 3 times a day;
    • Day 3 - 20 ml 3 times a day;
    • Day 4 - 50 ml 5 times a day;
    • Day 5 - 100 ml 4 times a day;
    • Day 6 - 150 ml 4 times a day.

    Start of complementary foods

    Learn to distinguish between "complementary foods" and "supplementary foods". In the first situation, the baby receives additional food to prepare for adult life and food. In the second, it is supplemented in case of a lack of milk with mixtures.

    Complementary foods are introduced at 6 months of age- with breastfeeding and 5 - with artificial nutrition. Until this period, except for mother's milk, formula and water, nothing can be given.

    Start slowly and with caution. The first time you need to give half a teaspoon of complementary foods, and then supplement with milk or formula. A "test" is possible before the second feeding, at 9-11 am.

    Assess the child's reaction to a new product. If rash, irritation, anxiety, constipation (diarrhea) is not found, then the next day you can give 2 times more.

    In no case should you introduce an unfamiliar product during illness or after vaccination. If any reaction occurs, the start of complementary foods is delayed for 1-2 weeks.

    Don't force your child to eat. Perhaps the baby is not yet ready for a new stage in life.

    Where to start feeding

    Better start with vegetables, this is zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli. Any vegetable is thoroughly washed and boiled (in a double boiler or in a regular saucepan). Then grind with a blender.

    On the first day - half a teaspoon. Then the dose is increased by 2 times every day and brought to normal.

    If there are no extraneous reactions to the new product, after 4 days you can try another vegetable, and then mash from the previously proposed products. After 10 days, one intake of dairy food should be completely replaced.

    For 7 months you can offer porridge. This should be done at the very last reception - before a night's sleep. To begin with, the baby should be introduced to buckwheat, rice and oatmeal, then gradually expand the diet.

    Use special baby cereals designed for 7 months of age. Giving semolina at this age is not recommended due to the presence of gluten in it.

    At 8 months, two feedings are already being replaced. Now you can introduce your child to fermented milk products - kefir. On the 4th day, offer low-fat cottage cheese.

    Fruits are introduced into complementary foods when the first tooth appears in the baby. The first is an apple. It is not recommended to fully replace feeding with fruit. They are given in addition to the main food.

    Meat is introduced at 9 months of age, and fish - at 10 months. You can add half the yolk and vegetable oil to the diet. From 10 months, soup is already being prepared on meat, fish broth, where bread crumb is added. The introduction of vegetable oil and cookies is allowed.

    By one year of age, all 5 feedings should be completely replaced. Although some mothers still put the baby to the breast at night.

    Water must be included in the diet. Its temperature should correspond to the body temperature of the baby.
